Feedback extortion

I’ve had 100% rating for over a decade on this account. I was just threatened with a negative feedback if I did not give a partial refund. I immediately contacted CS and was told not to worry, any negative feedback would be removed because item was about size and shown clearly next to a ruler. ( Diamond Huggies ) I refused the shakedown and ignored buyer once the extortion message came in. Neg of course was left claiming I enlarged pics ( on diamonds- lmao. Most buyers demand zoomed in pics to see clarity and color!) So I requested removal. Denied stating it was INAD - when no return request was opened for INAD???money back guarantee ??? I then escalated to the “ offline team” which immediately denied the request to remove because eBay didn’t want to get involved in a buyer’s opinion.
Another thing-I thought a buyer had to wait 7 days to leave bad feedback? Guess that changed too!
So I’m furious. I buy & collect way more than I sell. eBay is making 18% off my sales. Ended all of my listings, made FB private, returning items.
So beware. What stuck out to me was “ Buyers don’t expect to see 100% positive feedback “ in this new garbage update.
100% positive feedback is a reputation I’ve strived to attain and sustain. 1 buyer clearly violating eBay policy can ruin it with no recourse from a seller.

Re: Feedback extortion

Yeah, JINX, ha.  I edited that reply ^.
Funny thing is, when I was replying last night, I was thinking this was a different thread about attempts to get feedback removal, by a different OP.  It didn't occur to me until today that this was the very primadonna one from over a month ago.  Soooooo irritating.

Re: Feedback extortion

Just curious why you’re even on here “ helping “ other sellers when your own feedback isn’t stellar. I don’t even understand your response to your last negative feedback you obviously couldn’t get removed about bad feedback and partial refunds….

Re: Feedback extortion

It appears there is a lot you don't understand.  I have no idea if I "couldn't" get that neg removed because I didn't try to.  I was THRILLED to get it, after being at 100% positive for several weeks, and suffering the effects of that awful number.  -The effects being buyers trying to extort me for partial refunds.  The kind of buyers who do that purposely target 100% sellers, because they think they'll do anything to keep that number, and unfortunately that is often true (as we've seen in years of posts here).

That buyer of mine^ tried, failed, and negged me, much to my delight because it enabled me to warn people like that to move on, find some easier target than me.  And happily, that warning will stay on my profile for a full year.

I don't know what you consider "stellar" but you and I both have only one negative, and both have positive percents over 97, which I believe anyone would consider an "A+" grade.

That said, even your high score is not going to be of much help to make sales, if you keep your feedback private like that.   People looking at your items cannot see all the nice things people had to say about you, nor see that your only neg was from a weirdo who seems to understand photographs about as well as a toddler, or maybe a dog.  If buyers could see that, they would know it wasn't some terrible thing you did.  Instead it is a mystery, and people's imaginations tend to run wild.

But do whatever you want.  Just know that if you come here asking for help and purposely obscure facts that make you look like less of a victim, we'll figure it out.

Sellers can't have private feedback so if they keep their feedback private they will not be able to list anything.

Ha, I forgot about that, thanks.  And she did say in her original post that she was taking her listings down, back on September 17th.   So I can't imagine why she came back to bump the thread up again.

Re: Feedback extortion

This has just happened to me after 20 years on ebay. An extortion by a buyer who clearly is not normal--normal people do not describe going to the bathroom (twice) in a message to a seller. However, I do believe this buyer has figured out how to extort ebay sellers with ebay looking the other way. Ebay said in the "Request Status" that "The comment has been removed. Your feedback score and detailed seller rating will be adjusted".  Ebay did neither. Instead I got emails saying they had taken done the negative feedback for violating their policy but they didn't take it done. Then they said in those same emails that my feedback rating would include that negative feedback. The emails were cut and pasted and not tailored to the issue at hand. Which is why I am questioning ebay and their contractual obligation to me to follow their own written policy. These are the things that make attorneys salivate. I just want ebay to do the right thing and follow their own written policy. If not....

Oops. The above post had misspelling--down instead of done. So upset with ebay I didn't even proofread my post.

I agree   1 bad buyer and your whole reputation is ruined

eBay is just hurting themselves.

 That is correct.

I'm surprised it took you so long to realize that.

Re: Feedback extortion

Just one person's opinion but that vintage Monet does NOT look bright & shiny from the pic.

Not even close to what "new" Monet looked like. Unless there are other pics that show differently?

The negative feedback literally contradicts itself in real time.

Re: Feedback extortion

"These are the things that make attorneys salivate."  -If that were true eBay would have gone bankrupt by now, what with all the salivating attorneys suing them for not removing negative feedbacks.

Just curious, when you are sitting at an attorney's desk and describe the problem, then he/she asks, "Okay so what do you think the damages would be on this?  What amount and why?"  -what would be your answer?  In other words, you would need to prove in court that a single negative feedback cost you a specific amount of money in sales losses.   Seriously how many $27 water heater valves do you think you would not sell because of potential buyers reading your feedback?  And keep in mind an attorney could only charge you a percent of your court winnings.

So what would they have to salivate over?
