FRADU!!!!!!!!! So many scammers and no actual buyers on this platform

How does eBay allow so much blatant fradulant activity to go on? I have been trying to sell a lap top and was contacted by coutnless of scammers. Most recently the scammer also got a hold of my email account and sent me a fake PayPal payment. How can this is be possible? It is so easy to put a stop to it.

So many accounts that are hacked and are being used by scammers-hackers and no one cares. This is just a poor testament of eBay.

It would be really nice if you would use the quote feature when replying to a post.   That way we will know what you are talking about.

Here you go. I've used the quote feature. Thanks for the feedback.

Laptops, phones and designer handbags. The entire list is much longer though. Bullion definitely (if I had any) and video cards, high-end jewelery or watches, most used items, anything "as-is"... I seem to find enough trouble, I wouldn't ask for it!

It seems to me that it would sort of be hard for a scammer to send a fake PayPal notice to your email client address unless you responded to a "text me (your email address so I can arrange payment) " scammer and gave it to them.

Reports of similar issues are basically reported here daily.  Yes, ebay could "do something".  It would help if these scammer attempts through the message system could be reported without having to contact customer service.  They removed the "report this message" feature that used to be on the message itself.

Re: FRADU!!!!!!!!! So many scammers and no actual buyers on this platform

Some points I'd like to make.

Sellers are covered when they ship to the address eBay or PayPal  provided.  They need to confirm the payment is in their account before shipping. If you don't  do that you can be tricked into sending an item you weren't paid for.  If you send it to a different address you can also lose the money you were paid. eBay is unable to identify a bad buyer that bids or buys, and they don't prevent buyers from messaging sellers.    It's up to the seller to use common sense after the item is sold. Like buyer diligence there is also seller diligence.

Return item fraud/retail theft

Sellers will always have buyers that return a different item or an empty box. eBay isn't the only place this happens. If you're in the  selling business you need to price your items to cover retail theft. The buyer's identify can be confirmed  but how is that going to prevent them from returning an empty box?  Whoever is advocating that fail safe identity measures will stop fraud is wasting time. Donald Trump could buy your Joe Biden items and after you deliver them to the White House he could throw them in the trash and return an empty box and you would still be forced to refund.  Thus, a seller can't be protected from bad buyers so I suggest not to sell something here you can't afford to lose.

@electronics510 I'd lke to see your suggestions you have to help the seller. Your comments about the narratives in here is a blatant put down to other members who have opinions or suggestions  to give to  the OP,  and we should be free to express them  without you attacking us. As far as me and others telling sellers to leave I don't believe I've told anyone to leave except a very few sellers who have complained incessantly about being forced into managed payments. If they don't  like it then they should do us all a favor and leave instead of complaining over and over on numerous posts about a policy they can't  change. They need to go sell somewhere else if they don't like selling here.

Anyone that's reading this please let me know how you feel about what I said.

Another thing is there are 2 billion transactions a day.  We probably hear about most of the fraudulent transactions and none of the smooth transactions so in comparison the number of fraudulent activity is actually low.

The OP wrote:

"How does eBay allow so much blatant fradulant activity to go on? I have been trying to sell a lap top and was contacted by coutnless of scammers."

I assumed when he said he was "contacted by countless scammers" about his laptop, he meant he was contacted by countless scammers through eBay messages.

The OP later discussed getting a fake payment email from a buyer, but I doubt that the OP was referring to fake payment scams when he referred to being "contacted by countless scammers". Countless fake payment scams would take months.

You guys are trying to convince yourselves. An epidemic of denial.

I feel for you, I've gone through stuff like this and learned to recognize when to be a bit more realistic.

False. I simply agree with the OP and am not here trying to silence, minimize or build any other narrative on the thread. OP concerns are valid and I've variously felt the exact same way.

The counter narrative being pushed that OP was up to something nefarious and that ebay fraud and scammers are 'rare' just does not line up with reality. I think you guys are trying to convince yourselves.

List as Fixed Price/ Immediate Payment Required.

Do not accept Best Offers.

Block and Report requests that you text the scammer-- all text requests are from scammers.

Use a different email for eBay communication and for Paypal.

Only ship to addresses in your Paypal payment.

Do NOT believe that any email is from eBay  or Paypal or the buyer.  EBay Messages and your PP account are the only reliable information.

Block and Report requests involving gift cards-- all gift card requests are from scammers.

Sell locally for pick up and cash payment.

Re: FRADU!!!!!!!!! So many scammers and no actual buyers on this platform

It's a serious problem that gets worse by the week if you ask me. You have to stay vigilant and expect the unexpected. Scammers have been around since the stone age I would have to guess. The internet has opened trillions of doors for these slim. I believe eBay is trying and will continue to try to weed through this never-ending problem. When you have a good portion of a specific country's population attacking from all angles everyone in the US it becomes a nightmare. I have a website that I sell on and you would not believe the number of hackers from bots to humans that try to gain access to my website admin. Literally thousands a day from almost every country, including the US. I have protection software that provides me the time, IP address, down to the street address, and other data of each breach attempt and block. The old saying applies, no one will protect you better than yourself. Good luck.

Re: FRADU!!!!!!!!! So many scammers and no actual buyers on this platform

Everyone needs to be aware that there are certain conditions that attract these scummy scammers. New sellers with little feedback selling higher value easy to pawn sell again items like expensive jewelry, watches, Rolex and high end, computers, IPhones. These are the types of items these people try to steal on here. As a new seller you should not try to sell this stuff here on you’re own. You can now use an authentication service from Ebay for watches, sneakers that are high end expensive, and I forgot to mention those high end thousands of dollar designer purses. They use too have a service for those as well, not sure they do now.

Re: FRADU!!!!!!!!! So many scammers and no actual buyers on this platform

If you dont watch it ebay is as big of a scammer as the others ones out there have had the. Scam me once out of $275 sell that buyer wanted to return ebay instructed w to not accept the return and then appeal and I would win the appeal and guess what I didnt after I followed instructions given to me by eBay and actually did win one appeal where I sold a 200 dollar gold necklace and had a fake returned said I would be refunded in 2-10 business days over a month ago and all eBay will tell me is I know it is frustrating not getting my money but I assure you it will be in your account and 2-10 business days so it's looking more like they got me twice now

Re: FRADU!!!!!!!!! So many scammers and no actual buyers on this platform

The point people are trying to make is that eBay can and should do more. Top and bottom line would benefit if they worked on their platform and made it a trustworthy place to sell items.

This habit of deflection and excuses is not grounded by any rational ethic.

Do NOT believe that any email is from eBay  or Paypal or the buyer.  EBay Messages and your PP account are the only reliable information.

I would respectfully suggest that  just because a commination is in your eBay message inbox, it no longer proves it is valid or real.  Kindly, text me for the details.

Re: FRADU!!!!!!!!! So many scammers and no actual buyers on this platform

Well for one, when someone is caught doing that, how about banning their account?

Too many serial scammers have been at it for YEARS on eBay without eBay lifting a finger to put a stop to it.

How about when a banned buyer returns with another account, eBay gets serious about it and presses charges. It only takes  a little effort to spread the word that this is NOT the platform to be scamming on.

In reality, what do we get? Excuses about why they might not be a scammer, platitudes about the cost of business, and eBay worrying more about what other buyers will think if ANY buyer is held responsible for their actions.

Just show us you are trying, you don't even have to stop them all, just make an effort and we will work with you, and be understanding.
