I am confused? If you set the price of the buy it now's and know the fee's eBay charges why are you not happy with the price sold?
As to you question. My buy it now items I have listed are just that, mine. My item are not owned by eBays. If I want to end a listing I do. eBay has never punished me for that nor do I circumvent eBays policies.
Having said that, I have never ended a listing for the reasons you mentioned. I set the price. I do not hold eBay accountable for my final price my item sold for. I am in TOTAL control of my profit or loss of an item I list.
Good luck to you.
I do not list items on eBay that will not sell for what I need them to sell for.

Rumor has it that if you end your listings, ebay MIGHT think that you are removing them to sell off-site and charge you a FVF. If there is no indication of contact, you may be free to call it quits, without penalty. Just don't end anything you have had communications on with a potential buyer, would be one suggestion, and let it end naturally, if you have had questions.
Of course, it may just be a rumor or ebay may have chosen a different path.

a store subscription would have to be ended if you have one

How much more are they taking from you?
Why not raise your price by that amount?
Problem solved.
Or you could quit selling.
Again, problem solved.

I thought this applied to listings with bids...

About 3/4 of the way down. Policy applies to auction & fixed price.
Tried to post just that text, but of course the "copy & paste" results in a "hmtl" posting issue per usual

I did a ctrl+f and put "end" in the search box. The only thing I came up with supports my statement

If you think the final value fees are too expensive, then yes, you can quit by ending all your items and moving elsewhere or finding another job without penalty.

Until someone shows proof that if you cancel a fixed price listing, you will be charged FVF, then rumors are exactly that, and unsubstantiated at that.

There is no rule at all that if you cancel BIN listings you have to pay a penalty. In fact that would be about the craziest rule ever made by anyone on the planet because NO ONE would ever be able to quit Ebay.

Did you read the whole thread?
Title specifically states buy it now and it was implied that the possibility of a FVF fee was rumored.

@Anonymous
"Additional final value fees
You may be charged final value fees if you violate our policy of buying or selling outside of eBay, or we may apply additional final value fees if you are not meeting our performance expectations.
Buying or selling outside of eBay
If you offer or reference your contact information or ask a buyer for their contact information in the context of buying or selling outside of eBay - opens in new window or tab, you'll be charged a final value fee based on the total amount of the sale even if your item doesn't sell. In this situation, the total amount of the sale is determined as follows:
Auction-style listing format: The total amount of the sale is the auction start price, the Buy It Now price (if applicable), the reserve price (if applicable), or the price identified between the buyer and seller, whichever is highest.
Fixed price listing format: The total amount of the sale is the fixed price or the price identified between the buyer and seller, whichever is higher."
Of course, final determination of how the rules of any policy are utilized is solely determined by ebay - at their discretion.

It should be fine as long as it's not an auction. It may ask you why you're doing it if you have quantity left. It may not do it if you cancel multiple items at once. Can get around it by setting the quantity to 0 and then cancel it.

If you are using windows, C&P into 'notepad' and then copy and paste that result into the forum response - notepad strips out the html, including highlighting and such.
