End a listing get charged final value fee?

I've been told that eBay charges fees if a seller ends a listing early, without a sale. That eBay thinks the seller took that sale off eBay.

No Way.
Way?

For auctions...with bids...you will get an eBay fee with highest bid...if cancel.

I assume you have a store...which I do. I end listings and re list them no charge.

Some details of what specific circumstances may incur a fee can be found here:

I was freaking out a lil bit.  Just ended about $100,000 worth of listings.  Couldn't find anything where they charged me $13,000  (or $20,000)  Items were promoted

It's not the act of ending a listing early.

It's the act of ending a listing early when eBay has reason to believe the buyer/seller took the transaction off eBay.

Buying or selling outside of eBay

If you offer or reference your contact information or ask a buyer for their contact information in the context of buying or selling outside of eBay, you'll be charged a final value fee based on the total amount of the sale even if your item doesn't sell.

Under certain circumstances, they absolutely will. I was given a warning and told I was on probation for an action I took a couple years ago.  You have to read the details.  There are lots of rules.

Yes, way.

Which was bloody obvious from the thread you started this from. There was absolutely no need or justification to start a new thread about this.

It was already answered and explained there, and there was absolutely no need to cause additional confusion by starting another thread.

  Ahhh, Gotcha.
It's not for ending listings.  It's for ending listings and selling off of eBay.
Had me scared for minute there 😂

Don't hear a lot about it lately, but for a while (back a couple of years or so) eBay was banging sellers left and right.

Banged on the fees when they wasn't even bids

It was a hot topic.

It's when eBay has reason to believe you took it off eBay. If memory serves, @fern*wood 's warning and probation posted above was because the buyer was being a bit of a problem with too many questions, so Fern ended the listing to avoid the problem. And avoid buyer circumventing BBL by taking item off market entirely. Poor Fern was nailed with the "suspected off eBay" rule and had to pay final value fees on an item she truly did not sell, on eBay or off. Did I get that right, Fern?

WOW!  (I just block those kinds of users)
It sure seems difficult to convince eBay somebody is doing something wrong though.

Partly, but I was given a warning with no fees for a first offense I suppose.  I’m very careful now with communications and ending listings.  I actually sold my item on fb about three weeks after my communications on eBay and thought nothing about ending it, until I got that warning.  The fb buyer had no connection to the one I conversed with on eBay.

In its heyday, that "policy" was being applied, it seemed, when there was any communication whatsoever between buyer and seller and a listing was ended. Just ending because it had been up for a long time could have fees assessed if there had been "any" communication.  "Bots gone wild"

For that reason, some seller were reluctant to respond when there was any thought of a problem where they might end up ending an auction.

If one could find the correct keywords to search with here on the boards, pages could be filled with thread links about the policy being applied unjustly by eBay.

It was a long time ago. I'm surprised I remembered it at all. 😂

Probably stuck in my brain because it was right when eBay implemented that policy and you were one of the first "regulars" to come here saying you got hit by it.
