'End Listing' Question

Earlier this week I pre-planned 3 auctions & put them in ‘save for later/draft mode’

Last night I reviewed & listed them one at a time. (15 minutes apart)

Approximately one hour later I went back & saw that one of them wasn't showing up.
It was already gone from the ‘drafts’ section. This tells me it was a problem on eBay's end, not me accidentally listing the same item twice.

So I filled in the details, starting price, shipping, uploaded pictures, etc. & listed the item.

You guessed it. Today when I checked, the same item is for sale on 2 different auctions.
This is a unique football card in that it's serial numbered 023/100

Both auctions have one bid, from the same eBay member.

Will there be any repercussions, if I click on active auctions, find the auction listing the item a 2nd time, & choose......End Listing’ ?

Thanks in advance!

Re: 'End Listing' Question

Well I would definitely explain to the bidder first before ending one of the auctions

Re: 'End Listing' Question

Just remember, you have to CANCEL THE BIDS FIRST on which ever auction you are going to end.

No strike for ending the listing.

Re: 'End Listing' Question

Definitely a good idea, and maybe give them the listing number of the one that you are keeping up so they can have the opportunity to bid on it, if they choose to.

Re: 'End Listing' Question

When you cancel the listing, be sure to choose the option to cancel the bids and end with no transaction, rather than the option to sell to the high bidder.

The only penalty is eBay's policy that they will charge a fee when you cancel an auction that has one or more bids; there is no defect point as there could be if you cancel an actual transaction. The fee is based on what the final value fee would have been if sold to the high bidder, or maybe on the high bidder's full hidden proxy bids.  There are reports both ways.  However, eBay has also had a policy of forgiving the first such cancellation per year, so you might not be charged at all, this time.

Re: 'End Listing' Question

I'm almost certain the bidder knew something was wrong because this football card was serial numbered 023/100 & that was clearly visible in both the item headers/titles & the description.

But I contacted him,  explained the situation, & then canceled the bid which ended the listing.

I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that's the end of it.

Thanks for all the help!

He had a bid on both of them already.

Re: 'End Listing' Question

I know little to nothing about football cards, but I find it interesting that he/she bid on both, seeing that the number and the seller were the same, without asking a question about it.

I am happy that you got it figured out.

Have a safe and lucrative weekend!

Re: 'End Listing' Question

Keep in mind that after you launch a new listing, it can take up to 24 hours before it is indexed and shows up in Search.

Thanks, but I didn't launch a new listing, I just eliminated an identical one.
