Empty Box Comes Back From Russia

Got an INR case from Russian Federation a couple months ago.  Somehow I won the case, luckily, because I just got the box rejected as unclaimed, and it was empty.  Russian customs stole $300 worth of vacuum tubes.

I had shipped to Russia for years with no problem, but not anymore lol.

I ship to Russia a few times a year and my regular buyer has me photograph the weight of the box when I send it so he can compare it when it arrives (to avoid checking all 400 coins one by one). One time the weight was off, it was my fault, but the buyer freaked out because he thought Russian post stole some coins.

I have had packages going to other people in Russia (who were trusted customers of mine), only to have Customs/Post open the package, steal some things, and seal it up again.

You've got to be wise and expect that items to the former Soviet Union may be tampered with or stolen before they get to the recipient. Although the Soviet Union is no longer in existence, I have found that the greedy attitude and low ethics of Russian Customs and postal officials is still in existence.

I do not ship to Russia. A few years ago I sent a teddy bear with chocolate nibbles zipped inside, and it arrived at the recipient's address with the box ripped open and the chocolate removed, most likely by a Russian Customs or postal employee with a sweet tooth.

My Russian buyer of course filed an INAD claim, and I had no choice but to refund the $50 they paid for the item. And of course it was not worth paying for the item to be returned.

I have also had similar experiences with most of Asia and Central & Southeast Asia (not Japan or ROK), all of the Middle East except Israel, all of Mexico, Central and South America and Africa, and until recently Italy and Greece. When potential buyers in those areas ask me to make an exception for them so they can buy an item, I kindly explain to them why I cannot allow it.

Be wise, especially with high-value items.

Cheers, Duffy

If it is Russia's fault then why does eBay facilitate that business with Russia. Ebay can see the past performance and details of the buyer, the sellers can't.
eBay makes a fortune from the shipping AND any return shipping, which is one of the reasons will they will ship anywhere.

The beatings will continue until my morale with eBay improves

Never a problem shipping to Russia in 20 years, but recently I ordered/received a package from Russia that should have been a video game console, but it arrived with a couple 2L Russian lettering soda bottles with some clear liquid half way filling them.

The seller had 0 feedback so I don't know what happened, but they paid around $100 in EMS postage. It seemed more likely Russian customs opened and stole / replaced the contents, or else the new seller thought a delivered package was sufficient regardless to win a claim.
