Email Notifying of Payment

Hi,

I had an encounter with a suspicious buyer, and due to receiving two different addresses, I canceled the order (citing the addresses as the problem). People have told me it was a scam, and I was a bit relieved to be done with the whole ordeal.

But now I've received an email from eBay - at least that's what it looks like. Telling me that I've been paid and I can ship the item. And it leaves me with a couple questions...

1. how do I tell 100% if this email is fake? What should I look for?

2. how could I possibly have been paid if I canceled the order? (Another tip-off that this is fake because it makes zero sense how you can pay someone for a canceled order)

I looked at the email address it was sent from and it is: "ntl.paypal@gmail.com".. I find it a bit odd PayPal would use Gmail LMAO

but regardless, I'd feel much more comfortable getting verification that this email is fake, and this is all part of their scam.

I’m not talking about you specifically, 99.8% of the people on both threads have been rude and tried to justify it as “tough love”.  And enough is enough, I’ve heard it once. I don’t need a million others telling me it over and over. All I wanted was for my questions to be answered.

In scrolling back through this thread as well as your other, I'm really not seeing anything resembling "rude" posts or tough love. If anything, you got more than the usual percentage of complimentary replies because you asked for advice before getting scammed instead of after. Certainly not 99.8% rude... but feel free to call out a specific rude posting if there was one.

Will all due respect, did you even read what I wrote? at the end, I said I would feel better getting verifications that this is fake rather than assuming since this was my first-time selling.

Funny how you guys advise for people to be careful, then when someone takes extra precaution, they’re met with rude words. $500 is a lot. I’m not stupid enough to fall for their scam, but I’d still rather be safe than sorry.

Some of you guys are the rudest people I‘ve ever dealt with. I understand what I did wrong, I don’t need people continuing to come after me, telling me everything I did wrong. All I wanted was for my questions to be answered, not criticized for everything.

It's sad that you think that 99.8% of the people here were rude to you.

In fact, I would say that 100% of the respondents were not rude at all, quite the contrary, they took the time to try and help you, even without a thank you!

When you ask questions, you are usually going to get the same or similar answers and advice repeated from many people over and over.  When you hear about how new sellers with little feedback selling expensive products are a target for scammers, it's not criticism, it's a fact. You are a target. It's not a personal attack.

You are fodder for scammers playing on your selling inexperience.  You are easier to fool with fake emails and other tricks because they know you are probably not wise to their scams and the ebay policies like experienced sellers. They are predators.

People don't think you are stupid; they know you are inexperienced. When you hear 20 times that you need to log in to your paypal account to see a payment, it's not rude, it's the answer. It's a common denominator,

And you will hear this same thing from a "million" different perspectives.

Would you rather just one person answer? What if they were wrong? Take the common denominators from all the advice and be thankful that others are looking out for you.

Because I see many people here trying to help you, including myself, with specific answers to your questions, based on their own experience, and I see all of your questions have been answered.

And you come out swinging?

The people who have tried to help do not want you to be scammed, they do not want you to lose $500.

So my "rude" advice to you; Sell cheap things for a while, it's actually fun! Stuff you want to get rid of, make a few bucks, learn the ropes, watch these boards.

Or not. I don't really care but I think you should sell stuff here. Just not $500 stuff; sell that locally.

You're welcome!

The information being posted here is not just for your benefit, but also for the benefit of many other people who have come to these boards who are looking for answers to similar questions.

The target audience for this public messageboard is much bigger than just you.

Re: Email Notifying of Payment

I want to apologize for taking my frustrations out on you earlier. A low blood sugar left me in a bit of an irritable mood, and I hope you can forgive me.

Re: Email Notifying of Payment

I apologized. As I mentioned, I responded in the midst of waiting for a low blood sugar to rise, so I was in a more irritable mood compared to if it wasn't low. But it wasn't right of me to take it out on here, and I genuinely do appreciate all of the help

I'm sorry. I've explained my reason for the awful response to a couple others, and I genuinely do appreciate all the help these responders have left me. I admit I made an **bleep** of myself, but I hope you're able to forgive me and see that I'm truly grateful for all the help.
