Egotistical Ebay - Explain this one...?

I listed an Omega watch that we had received in an estate lot.

Another alert seller contacted me and told me that it was not a real Omega. After confirming the information, I immediately ended the auction. We make errors occasionaly, being human, but we correct issues when they are brought to our attention.

Approximately ten minutes AFTER I ended the auction, and then messaged the other seller thanking them for the information, I received a NastyGram from Ebay telling me that THEY had removed the item from Ebay after they had caught me violating their counterfeit item policy, and reminding me that I could receive all kinds of penalties for it.

Now...I know the policy. I just finished removing the watch auction.

Why not send a message saying "We note that you have removed an item that was flagged as Counterfeit - Thank you for doing the right thing and keeping the faith with the Ebay community"?

Instead you decide to send me another reason to consider selling somewhere else - where our scruples and honesty might actually mean something?? Way to go, Ebay!

Well, at least they didn't send you an email accusing you of ending the listing so you could sell the watch outside of eBay, and charge you the FVF on it.  Although, don't lose hope... I don't think their bots talk to each other, so you still might get that one too!

I agree.

Had a buyer leave his email and phone number in messaged. I told him I cannot do that and we can only speak on here (eBay). The next day eBay sent me a warning message letting me know if it happens again that my account may be placed on selling restrictions and possible account deactivation...this happened AFTER I told the buyer no!

Explain this one...?

The seller who sent you a message also reported your listing as counterfeit.

Another seller or buyer or lookey loo can report counterfeit items until the cows come home. Even if that person actually knows what is what. Nothing will happen.

Why? Because VERO members are the ONLY ones that have a listing taken down.

Think about it.

If every Joe and Jane Whosit could report an item as counterfeit and have eBay pay attention, wouldn't that be a fine kettle of fish!

So all a competitor needs to do is hammer someone day after day with their contact info and if you dare respond you are screwed?

I think you might not want those two to actually have authority to end a listing, but there is no good reason for eBay to not receive and look at reports from other users.  Problem is, there's so much stuff to report on eBay it was just overwhelming them, so rather than do something about the actual problem, they just started routing reports directly to the virtual shredder.

So, let me ask... if the item's manufacturer no longer exists (is out of business), that means that any counterfeit listed cannot... MUST NOT... ever be removed?

The topic brings up an interesting consideration... is it possible the reason eBay found the ended listing and issued the email is that they data-mined the Message from the other seller, and that's what tipped them off to the listing?

They data-mine everything else, so........decidedly probable!

Quite probable, but since I contacted the other seller AFTER I deleted the auction, was the NastyGram reasonable?

How people generally view everyone else is a reflection on the individual.  They tend to think everyone else is generally like them.  Since the pointy haired folk here at eBay seem to have the default belief their customers and everyone else are lying, scamming, thieves; well...  you can see where that thought line leads to.  😄

If it works, sell it. If it works well, sell it for more. If it doesn't work, quadruple the price and sell it as an antique.

Looks like another seller has reported you to eBay first and then contacted you...
