Thoughts on hiring a ebay virtual assistant?? Is it worth it? How valuable are they? Will they help my store?

Everything depends on the type of work or project. In the correct scenario, an ebay virtual assistant can be very valuable to your ebay store operations.

From my perspective, the best international ebay virtual assistants are the ones who are college educated, fluent in English, comfortable in Windows applications, comfortable working in platforms such as ebay, comfortable using online meeting tools such as Zoom, hard working with a willingness to learn, & prompt.

When there is a right match between ebay seller & virtual assistant, I'm all for hiring a virtual assistant.

Here is a different viewpoint.....not mine originally, read somewhere in a small business magazine....

Why do you feel the need for a virtual assistant?  How many hours are you planning on spending training them, reviewing their work?  Will your profit support a virtual assistant?

What other tasks can you hire out?   House cleaning service?  Nanny/babysitter?  Grocery delivery in your area?  Lawn service?   Perhaps you should consider hiring for this tasks and doing all your eBay yourself.

I knew a blacksmith who decided to expand his grazing field.  He started digging fence post holes...lost a day's earnings because he couldn't shoe horses and dig holes at the same time..  Then realized he could hire day labor to dig holes faster than him, cheaper than him.  He stopped digging holes.

How good are you at hiring people for in-person work?

It is unlikely you will be as good at hiring virtual workers, unless you are lucky.

There are strong cultural effects of using International workers,

It is ironic when sellers who claim about off-shore support staff on marketplaces hire VAs who are off-shore,

Remember that you are responsible for all of the problems which your VAs manage to create, and that few of them really understand how Americans buy, and the nature of many products Americans sell.

There are many Americans who so not have a clue what most of what I sell is about, and what buyers need to know,

personally I would never hire a VA.  I want control of my business 100% when the end responsibility  falls on. me.

I was a district manager in retail for years.  The worst part o my job was hiring people.  Most do not want to work they are there for the paycheck only.  They do not care if your store is successful or not.  they are there just to make a living.  No way would I hire anyone to put their hands into my e bay store.  Too much risk of them messing up something that e bay will not forgive and lose your account.

That is a bit like asking whether hiring a chef will help your restaurant.

It depends entirely upon the chef. 

It could either get you a Michelin star, or put you out of business.
