Did you mean:

Ebay says I need tracking all the way to the destination otherwise no seller protection.

I sold a small item to a buyer across the country. The package had tracking to Miami Florida where stopped in the same city as the buyer but not at the buyer's address. I updated the tracking in the ebay system. I called ebay and they said they would look into it the following day. I didn't hear back. It is such a hassle to call I waited a week or so. Then I got a message the buyer filed a did not receive case. I thought good. That should solve this. The buyer was so patient but there is a limit. Ebay wrote me that they were refunding the buyer and deducting the payment I received from my account. Ebay wrote' We didn’t receive valid proof of delivery from you. Sellers must provide tracking information showing the item was delivered to the address provided in the order details''.   So that means if the post office messes up then no ebay protection? What is ebay protection for?

@hmnpwr

File an insurance claim online with USPS for a lost item

eBay is not here to provide insurance for sellers for loss or damage. That is not part of seller protection.

I don't know what you mean by "ebay protection," but you, as seller, are responsible for delivering your package to the buyer.

Did you ship by USPS and purchase the postage through eBay?

Did the tracking you uploaded show delivery to any address?

You should pursue this with your shipper. If the package was lost by the shipper, make an insurance claim if you have insurance.

Re: Ebay says I need tracking all the way to the destination otherwise no seller protection.

Ebay can't offer protection on a item that was not delivered.

Does that make any sense?

I recently had a item get lost/stuck in the mail.

When the buyer reported they did not receive the item, I immediately refunded the buyer.

It is now my job to file a claim with the USPS.

So why are you mad at ebay???

First you should know that eBay customer support is pretty much useless these days. They will tell you what you want to hear to get you off the phone even if that means lying to you. When the buyer filed the INR case with eBay it sounds like you did not respond to the case or did not take any action and the buyer asked eBay to step in which is always bad.

As others noted you need to file a claim with USPS or whatever carrier you utilized. If it was USPS following is the timeline for filing an insurance claim with USPS. If you shipped ground advantage that falls under priority mail and other insured mail.

Sounds like 'freight forward' from Florida to another country...but I might be wrong.

Did you check the eBay buyer ID and did it say 'USA'?...or another country?

Did you not download the 'tracking' as documentation in the request?

So that means if the post office messes up then no ebay protection?

Correct.

What is ebay protection for?

The seller protection policy explains exactly what seller protection is for. That policy clearly states that it does NOT protect a seller unless he has delivery confirmation.

What happens when the P.O. clearly messes up ?

You should be aware that a carrier considers the shipper as their client & not the receipient

As an example, why would ebay care to provide a seller whose packages at the time of being entrusted into the custody of USPS & were immediately scanned as delivered ,be given  special consideration should some issue arise out of that postal error?

Curious as to how  this particular issue is addressed by the carrier on ground advantage ?

I have heard to expect no further USPS scans will appear in tracking after a delivery scan has taken place

Re: Ebay says I need tracking all the way to the destination otherwise no seller protection.

This should not be new news to a seller since 2005.  Started selling in 2008 it was always the sellers responsibility to get the purchase delivered to the buyer and in the same condition as described in the  listing via words & pictures.  This is all spelled out in the User Agreement that you signed  when you became a member.  The seller picks the  carrier, packs the purchase, pays for the shipping label bought thru eBay or other source,  selects the shipping  service and provides insurance for loss/damage or have a self insurance fund bank.

How exactly did you update the tracking in the eBay system??? -  tracking up dates are  the carriers  responsibility - did you mean you added the tracking number to the order file

Re: Ebay says I need tracking all the way to the destination otherwise no seller protection.

In my case, tracking shows delivered and that it was in the buyer’s parcel locker. I told him to check with USPS. Buyer claims USPS never left him a key and he was unable to track it down after 3 days of follow-ups with USPS. So what did the buyer do? Filed a never received package claim. eBay stepped in and refunded the buyer even after I showed them proof of delivery.
