Ebay's "Seller Support" is little more than a lie

My name is Frederick; I am a seller on Ebay under "prestonenterprises". I have found that Ebay's "seller support" pledge is not worth the webpage it is written on.

Yesterday, against what I was told would happen by Ebay support, a buyer who claimed I had not shipped their product was given a refund, and I was told to go pound sand by Ebay support.

To make a long story short, on 21 May 2018 I mailed four magnets with tracking to a buyer in Connecticut.  The magnets were apparently held up in transit and stated so on the USPS website, which is not my fault.

Buyer was very arrogant and demanded his money back, after I told him they were held up in transit and to please be patient.

Ebay support lied to me on Monday evening and told me that since I had provided tracking, that I was "covered". I found that was not true on Thursday, when they told me that "I" had not delivered the magnets to the buyer. Yes, that is what I was told. I then said, "What will happen when my magnets are finally delivered to the buyer?"

I was told, "Oh well," and the Ebay "teammate" HUNG UP. In other words, the buyer will receive four free magnets and my thirty dollars, and I will be left looking like the fool I evidently am.

I have to use  Ebay to sell my items, but I will NEVER trust them, and I will NEVER recommend their services to ANYONE. I will make certain that the world knows about this deceit by Ebay, via posts and articles on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and Disqus.

I'm sorry, but I cannot accomodate liars and deceitful actions, and I want nothing to do with such individuals or corporations.

I would be interested in opinions if anyone reads this message, thank you.

You seem to sell alot of parts for vacuums and tools. It's been over 3 weeks since the items were purchased - may I ask how long you expected the buyer to wait? Did you ever enter the tracking number into the USPS web site to see where there travels ended and call the USPS to see what the problem was so you could convey that to the buyer. As a buyer - I would never wait 3 weeks and would have opened a INR case as soon as I contacted the seller to inquire where they were and they felt it was no longer their problem but the USPS and the buyer's.

I send everything with insurance - and USPS "insurance" is not worth the paper it is written on - it will take perhaps six months to get a refund, if I ever do at all.

Everyone's mileage will vary, but I had a situation last year that took about 35 days to resolve in my favor, it was a lost item situation, that's how I know that when an insured item is lost, USPS insurance will reinburse the postage as well.

I suppose a lost item case is better than a damaged item case, as plenty of finger pointing regarding "was it packed and protected adequately" can be done while waiting for repair estimates if applicable, while a lost item that is not recovered after XX days is a lost item, open-and-shut-case.

I'm curious as to why you think it is fair for a buyer to be out their money AND the item for something that wasn't their fault in the slightest.  You said you shipped it on May 21st-- that's almost a month ago!  At this point the buyer has every right to want either the items they purchased or their money back.

Re: Ebay's "Seller Support" is little more than a lie

You are selling replacement parts and using economy or standard shipping which probably adds to a buyer's frustration when an item is delayed in transit.     I'd scrap the free shipping and paying for insurance  for any item over $10 and charge for priority shipping which comes with free insurance and gets there quicker.

According to your listings if I purchased an item from you today Monday - expected delivery would be next Monday, and I am also on the east coast.   If I really needed the part, and it didn't arrive in a week as advertised , I'd probably complain, too even if it showed "in transit".    But then I probably wouldn't have purchased it from a seller using economy or standrd shipping to begin with.

Knowing the policies can prevent one from being victimized.
