Ebay's Background Removing Tool Greatly Improved

Maybe I am just late to the party but I don't remember seeing any reference to this subject.  I had given up using Ebay's background removing tool long ago as it simply did not work well the vast majority of the time.  But fairly recently they made some sort of major improvement and now it is working wonders most, not all, but most of the time.  I just went through all my holiday listings and will, as time permits, revisit most of my photos over the coming weeks.

I don't usually use a background removal tool, but I'll probably play around with this a little, thanks to this thread. Thanks for the tip!

@m60driver I'll give eBay a +1 for improving the accuracy of the automated part of the tool, and a -10 for taking away the eraser and paintbrush functions to fine tune the results.

In many pictures I've tested with the updated version, the tool works significantly better than in the past, but like you said - not all of the time. 

For the few where it doesn't work, there is now no way to do anything about it....except move the picture to a separate program to edit after you've already wasted the time trying to use eBay's tool and then reupload it once it's been fixed.

Or I guess you could just leave it looking like this?

I'm only getting about 25% success rate with the new background removal tool.   No opportunity to frame the item, and most of the time part of the background is left.  Would really like to see the eraser function added back.

I don't want my listings looking like a catalog photo. I want my buyers / shoppers know that I actually have the item.

Improved to what end?

As noted in another thread, eBay is adding a uniform gray background to seller images that have already had the background removed. In other words, turning a pure white background to gray for no good reason.

Why have a tool at all if that's the case? There are better tools than eBay's remover. Sellers who take the time to remove their backgrounds before listing end up with gray anyway.
