Ebay refuses to enforce their own rules, Why ?

This is an ongoing story that started January of 2022. Listed an item, within 12 hours the item was removed. I have no problem with that. The rule was vague but once explained I agreed.

There were at the time several other listing for the same item which had not been removed. All of them listed before mine. The item is considered a part of an assault rifle in California.  I asked about them and was told they would be removed.

A week later they had not been taken down as I was told. A long phone call later I was told they had not been reported. So I went down the list and clicked the report item and reported all of them.

A week later the only ones missing were the ones that had sold. I called and talked to trust and safety. Reported them directly to the agent who told me they would take care of it.

A week after that nothing had been removed. One of the listing has been up and selling since December of 2021 and sold over 280 of the items.  This particular listing has been reported by me several different times by using the report item link but it is still up today and selling 5 months later.

Several more weeks and several more calls where I was promised it would be taken care of or that a supervisor would call to discuss this. None of it ever came to pass.  No supervisor ever called as far as I could tell the only listed ended were the ones that sold.

Ebay has sold hundreds of this item over the last 6 months but they tell me I still can not list that item. I have talked to everyone who will listen but they don't do anything. Email are met with standard canned responses that do not even acknowledge the real problem.

I am writing this as sort of a hail Mary to reach someone who gives a **bleep** at ebay. Don't know if anyone out there really cares whether this is a fair and inclusive place. Does not seem like it.

If your item was removed.  Don't relist.  Its not worth getting your account suspended.

Hmm if you know it should not be listed do not list it:

dont worry about what others are doing: not worth the time.

We know it is not fair.

You wasted a lot of your time and a lot of eBay's time worrying about other sellers.

(absolutely no idea from your post as to why your particular item would or wouldn't be sellable)

Is it possible that the other sellers are doing something different in their listing that is different from your listing?

Reporting sellers just makes ebay take a look at the offending post to see it if truly is offending. If the other sellers have figured out how to word things, or how to fill out the forms right, maybe that's why they aren't being taken down when you report them.

Like maybe the other sellers have excluded certain states from being able to purchase their item? (I have no idea if this is an option on ebay as a seller).

Or maybe their location and your location are different and that's what matters to the word of the laws in question?

Or, as you pointed out, maybe it has to do with their posts being older than your posts, and maybe the rule about posting things is worded in way where they are grandfathered in since they aren't new posts.

Reading your post...you did word it in a way that makes me think you are only reporting the other sellers because you got reported, like as a jealousy/envy thing. Not sure that's what happen, that's the way it reads. Perhaps ebay is dismissing the seriousness of your reporting because they think it is an emotional outburst?  hope that isn't the case, as I like to think that ebay would not be so unprofessional as to ignore a serious use of the report function.

Yes, it is maddening when some listings are in blatant violation of the stated rules and get away with it.

About the only time i saw listings removed was as a buyer. I purchased what was advertised as a genuine article,  only to receive a counterfeit. I know eBay gives weight to complaints from buyers. Perhaps less weight is given to competitors. Not that it should matter. eBay needs to do a better job at enforcement of its rules.

People can be dismissive about this all they want, but as a buyer (not a seller, fretting about competition), the blatant search and browse manipulation violations are ridiculous and time-wasting.

I am a serious card collector and investor, and only buy PSA 10 Gem Mint graded cards. I search based on those criteria. But many, many sellers list ungraded cards as being PSA 10 Graded in their listing title, listing description, and tags. They blatantly lie to raise the profile of their card above the millions of cards in ebay's listing inventory by making false listing claims.

The point is not whether or not  people are going to try to game the system - that's never going to change. The point is that when these listings are reported, ebay finds no violation, and allows (invites) this practice to continue.
