Hello,
I ran out of stock on one of my items and so had to purchase from an Ebay seller and drop ship to the customer. But when I try to upload the tracking number, it says:
The tracking number is already associated with a different transaction.
I purchased and drop shipped the item from my same Ebay selling account. So in my purchase history it shows the item with tracking from the Ebay seller.
What can I do to upload the tracking to my customer ?
Thanks.

It wasn't "dropped shipped" either, just to clarify. It was retail arbitrage.
Retail Arbitrage is a form of Drop Shipping. It is the form that Ebay doesn't allow.

Correct. Ebay does not allow retail arbitrage.

I'm aware, thank you. See post 13.

No, he's a seller whose buyer (the OP) wants his purchase shipped someplace else; that's all. He is not a drop-shipper.
If the OP was listing that seller's items as his own, and then paying that seller to ship the OP's sales to the OP's customers, then that seller would be a drop-shipper. That is not the case here.

In addition, this is the advice we give to sellers if they lost or broke something that they are selling - to buy it from someone else on ebay and have it shipped to the buyer.

Who is "we"? I haven't and I know of many other posters that wouldn't give that advice as we know it is against the Ebay rules.

Nothing.
The tracking number the other seller gave you is for them.
There is no way you can use their tracking number because it is already in the system.

Hahaha this is funny.
As i understand it, the OP sold a item (transaction #1) and realized he's out of stock so he ordered one from another ebay seller (transaction #2) and had that seller send it directly to his customer (transaction #1).
Now the OP is trying to add the tracking number from transaction #2 to his transaction #1 and he's wondering why it wont let him.

Okay, clearly that feedback comment you found shows that the buyer figured out what happened, but that's still not drop-shipping; it's retail arbitrage. OP sells something he doesn't have (for whatever reason), so he goes out and buys another example of the missing item at full retail from a third party, and has it sent to his buyer.
I suppose one could argue that retail arbitrage is a form of drop-shipping, but that form is still not officially allowed here. I know some sellers have done that in an emergency, such as what happened here.

Let’s not gorget the OP goofed and was out of stock, and did this to satisfy an order. It’s not their regular business model.
I’ve seen the board approve the exact same fix when another poster has done it.
And, yes, OP could file INR themselves if buyer doesn’t receive the item.
I'd mark shipped and stay quiet, and only supply the tracking number and an honest explanation if buyer asks later.

I’ve seen it advised several times, on multiple boards.
