Ebay & PayPal "Confirmed Addresses"...LOL!

Ok, so it's been like 24 years since day one of ebay and 20 years for PayPal.

....and they still give me totally BOGUS "confirmed" addresses on a regular basis!

C'mon guys....the USPS offers up its system (for a small fee) to validate addresses and obviously eBay/PayPal doesn't want to spend the money to guarantee sellers get a good address...and imagine going through life not knowing the correct address of where you live...geesh....how do these people survive? OMG!...and the people that know where they live, but can't spell it correctly yet it's "confirmed"!

Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and remote California addresses are the worst...time and again they fail validation through the USPS checker...yes, we check through the USPS as providing a valid shipping address is asking a bit too much of ebay/paypal.

I don't know what else to say...just had to rant...checked a bad address today, then looked it up via Google Earth and it's an empty spot out in the desert...waiting for the buyer to respond.

"Confirmed" in PayPal land means that the primary address used to register the PayPal account was "confirmed" (matches the billing address of the credit card). All additional addresses that are added (extra shipping addresses for example) will also show "confirmed" even though PayPal does not verify those additional addresses.

I think you are misunderstanding the use of "confirmed", it does not and never has meant that the address has been verified as valid for USPS.

I certainly agree with you that PayPal should do something but it's always been that they do not verify the addresses are acceptable (or correct) for carriers such as USPS, UPS, FedEx etc. They allow users to enter any kind of garbage they want and thus we have to deal with addresses which are incorrect or semi-correct or correct but improperly formatted. It's a real problem with International addresses.

Have you ever tried to ship to Puerto Rico? What a nightmare! I don't think anyone there knows the proper formatting of the address where they live...the USPS address checker chokes on those "Calle" addresses every time. Packages take forever or simply disappear.

We shipped to PR for about 2 months and then we blocked them, the postal issues were just too much.

Ebay sellers haven't been required to ship to confirmed PP addresses in a very long time.  Many years.

I always double check the address on google maps if it is expensive shipping.   Also new buyers seem to give bad addresses most of the time.   I with Ebay would do the checking for us, but that is too much to ask.

Boy I've been at this a long time and I don't find the same thing to be true about new buyers.  I am sorry to hear you have such a bad time with this.

Just had Ebay rep verify an old account (buyer)from 2002 with no recent sales/purchases or feedback, checked buyers ph# on file and it came back to a apparent family member with different address. anyway stated i was concerned due to all the recent buyers claiming they did not receive item or NAD to get refund. rep stated the call has been recorded and was given a case # for the record. we shall see?
