My opinion - the only one that wins on EBay is Ebay and the shysters. If I were a crook this is where I would start my career. I am sure there are many good sellers but when you get a few bad ones it stings and I have had a few. Ebay has policies that don't provide equitable solutions and sooner or later you will end up holding the bag so to speak. Meanwhile Ebay is on the way to the bank along with the shyster with your hard earned money and you are left with nothing. Recently I purchased a product sold as NEW no box. When it arrived it was a different part number than stated. Number was stamped right on the part. I setup to return it but discovered from the manufacturer I could simply by a couple of adapters and it would work for my needs. I canceled the return I had started only to find the item was defective after installing it. Ebay's response was "oh that's to bad" and will tell you that is policy your out of money and out of luck. They will direct you to PayPal which is a whole other process in which PayPal will direct you to Ebay. Hours and hours of attempting to get a remedy for a "seller admitted" misrepresented part that was also a defective part. There are sellers that buy store returned stock and then sell it on EBay as new which has a high potential of being defective. That's where I would start my career if I was a criminal. So easy for a criminal - it's all setup for you.
Save your time and hard earned money. Here is a thought. I have never had a problem that they have not address and very few issues to start with. My opinion there are only 2 types of Ebay customers the ones that have been ripped off and the ones that are going to be ripped off. How many of you are the first type? How many of you are the second type?

When you got the incorrect part, you should have filed snad, returned it, and you would have received your money back.

I am a third type - one who would follow through with the return and would not settle for being sent the wrong part.

I have grown accustomed to this
CSR telling me they do not do this or that
buyers are always in the driver seat
I am unsure why paypal derailed your attempt at action
when this happen to me I start to remind them of the policy they have spouted
know the rules...........and when you need to enforce them
you are given a right to return with paypal.......
no ifs and or buts
paypal pushed you right out of the drivers seat
I am unsure why it happened but the results are always the same with me
I like to call attention to the rules
if they are not doing what they say...then that is a quality control issue and makes me even more determined to get them to comply with there own stated objective..........
its not easy to know when a CSR is blowing smoke
the choice to not comply with stated policy..........is not something anyone should have to put up with.........
know your rights and shut that abuse down
Germantown proud Germantown strong
up the whiskey hickon
moving right along

It seems to me after you installed the part, you modified it and where unable to send it back in its original state. As others have pointed out, you should have sent it right back the minute you noticed it was the wrong part.

Not helpful. You are making inaccurate assumptions. Please read again. The product was not modified - ADAPTERS - not modifications. (As in hose adapters if that helps) Where did you get modify from adapters.
I guess the shipping companies love Ebay . That is what I do recall in some past transactions.
1) Buy 2) Return and 3) Repeat.

When you went to close the original claim, it told you on your screen that if you closed the claim you would not be allowed to open another one. That is part of the standard message that appears on your screen. So if you read your screen, you would have known this fact. So the response you got from Ebay is correct. They didn't create this issue for you, you did when you close the claim too soon. And you were informed as well before you close the claim. I know, you may not have read your screen. I've done that myself.
Amazon only lets you file a claim once too. So if this happened to you on Amazon, you would have been in the very same boat.
You are mad at Ebay, I get that. But Ebay followed the rules, you didn't. I do not mean to sound harsh. I have no desire to sound that way to you, I'm simply stating the reality of what transpired for you. I do respect that you are upset, but it was a misunderstanding not Ebay trying to take advantage of you.
This is an important policy to know and understand as a buyer.

Next time (if there is a next time) just wait and see if the part will work with the adapters BEFORE you close a request. I am sorry but @mam98031 is right on the money in their explanation of the situation. The buyers do tend to have the upper hand in most situations...and this is coming from me - a buyer (far more than a seller)!

OP, I totally agree. Ebay has turned into the frickin' "Wild wild west" where it's "every person for themselves", and when you get screwed they WON'T DO A FRICKIN' THING ABOUT IT!! More proof of that is you can't even email them like you used to be able to do! All they care about is raking in the billion$.
Then there's also the: 1. Plethora of evil sellers that CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH at the .COM ENGLISH-BASED domain. 2. The "criminal" sellers where every time there's a promo of some kind or coupon, they claim something is "out of stock" AFTER you order it, then the items are "mysteriously" back IN-STOCK immediately after the promo/coupon has expired! 3. Their so called "GUARANTEED BY" delivery date is FRAUD because they WON'T DO SCHITT ABOUT IT when something is late! They SERIOUSLY need to be investigated by some Gov't agency to put a stop to their evil **bleep**.

"Number was stamped right on the part."
In the listing it had photos showing a part with the stamped number, prince hydraulic valve c-505, is that not a part number or did they send something different from the picture?

Not a part number. It is a valve category. There are many different part numbers with C-505 on the casting. You can research on Prince Hyd. if your interested. This would be comparable to ordering a water valve for your garden. It was ordered in 1/2" to fit the pipe in your garden. However the seller shipped a 3/4" valve. Rather than returning the valve the home owner changed a pipe in his garden to fit the valve. When the water was turned on the valve would not turn off as it was defective. By trying to avoid a return to the seller by changing the pipe to fit the valve the seller told PayPal the valve was modified and would not honor the 30 day return policy. PayPal agreed. Ebay "One and Done return policy" left no recourse for the buyer.

I get it that you are upset at Ebay for not allowing you to re-open a SNAD that you choose to close. Your problem with the product is a real issue and I respect why you are upset. I would be too.
While you don't like Ebay's policy of not allowing members to open a second claim on the same item, the rule is there for very good reasons which is why Ebay warned you when you were closing the initial claim. They wanted to make sure you were informed and knew what the results of your action would be.
Now your seller is a different issue. Your seller should have been communicating with you. I can only speak for myself, but if a similar situation had of happened with one of my customers, I would have voluntarily processed a return and refund on the item.
