Ebay Authenticator in Vegas didn't do their job

So I bought a Chanel off Ebay it passed authentication in NJ, came to me with the Chanel tag which has microchip ID in upper right corner which matches on microchip inside bag, most plastics are still on bag, it was like new, also came with original receipt from NYC Chanel boutique. Used bag twice it sat in my closet. Decided to sell, listed on Ebay, sold, sent with everything I'd gotten it with to include receipt, Chanel tag with matching serial number. The bag was sent to Las Vegas authenticator who in a matter of hours, states "unable to authenticate" sent the bag back to me. I've been back and forth with Ebay who are now stating I may have altered or done something, switched bags etc, won't take any responsibility, stating I have to have Chanel authenticate the bag, they do not do that and the associate stated that the bag was bought through their boutique and you have receipt the tag which matches the bag, sorry but they don't authenticate. I am absolutely sick over this. I see "foreign" sellers selling obviously fake stuff that don't even have to go through the authenticate process, but that is besides the point. The issue is I bought the bag through Ebay and they're now saying its not authentic. Terrible experience. (been with Ebay 20+ years always 100% seller/buyer). I see quite a few complaints about Vegas and their authenticators lack of expertise. I have reached out to the original seller I bought the bag from, yes their name is on the receipt, yes its authentic.  Again, what a terrible experience.

The listing was not removed, which leads me to question the reason they could not authenticate.

Frequently it's because of item condition not matching the listing (undisclosed flaws, etc) and not about whether the item is actually the brand advertised.

Check the communication from eBay - it should provide more details other than "unable to authenticate."

Nope "unable to authenticate" was the reason they gave.

I wonder how much money was given to do this...? and it didn't happen.

No Chanel Shop where you live or near by who would authenticate it?

I had a Tiffany pen repaired and got the letter stating it was real when it was repaired...for me it was a good piece of documentation from Tiffany.

 And I sold it on eBay without authentication...LOL

Just a thought.

May I suggest posting some photos of the bag on the handbag board:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Handbags/bd-p/luxury-handbags

I don't authenticate Chanel but there are members that do know this brand

Since you didn't personally buy it at Chanel, there's always a chance, however small, that your seller didn't sell you an authentic bag.

Perhaps you will get some suggestions there on what to do if the bag is indeed authentic.

I will concede that the authenticators have been known to make mistakes..

But start with having it looked at on the Handbag Board and go from there.

Unfortunately, there's no one who hangs around the boards who knows Chanel well. The purse forum no longer has anyone doing Chanel authentications and the ladies who used to run Etinceler (the best 3rd party Chanel pro authenticating service) have retired.

"The issue is I bought the bag through Ebay and they're now saying its not authentic.

The good thing is that they aren't saying the bag is fake. If they thought the bag was fake, the listing would have been removed. That it's still viewable indicates that it's not authenticity that's in question.

Can you post the denial message, redacting any identifying information? I'm guessing that something about the condition that differs from the listing.

FWIW, it's not the first time a previously authenticated bag was refused when it was resold through the same AG program.

Personally, I think ebay should get out of the "authenticity guaranteed" programs as there have been a number of issues from the getgo. And the lack of transparency and secrecy about who the experts are prevents both buyers and sellers from doing knowing whether their expertise is as good as it should be.

@albertabrightalberta

Could the reason it didn't pass be because of language OP used in the description?

I'm guessing @adamcartwright it's because the listing didn't say anything other than "excellent condition" and if there were any flaws, they were not disclosed. The authenticators probably found some minor flaws from use.

TBH, at first I hadn't scrutinized the listing because I was going by the OP's comment claiming they're saying it's not authentic and I was simply pointing out that it definitely wasn't deemed to be counterfeit.

However I've looked more closely at the listing, the pictures and the description. I agree with @wastingtime101 that the description isn't particularly informative but if they found undisclosed problems (scratches, dings, etc.), since nothing was mentioned, that would be a reason they might refuse to pass it.

One other thing caught my eye. Most of the pictures show the same photographing style with a cleaned up background, but picture #7 isn't quite as clear, doesn't enlarge clearly and doesn't have the same non-background as the others. I wondered whether it was the same bag and if so, why include this picture that isn't of the quality of the others. (I'm not sure this should make a difference in the authentication but it did catch my eye.)

@homeislove

Again, I'm betting that the message you received gives information as to why it didn't pass and allows you to relist it.

If you do relist the bag, include more information about the condition and measurements! (Measurements are VERY important!) It's better to over-describe and have the buyer happy to get a better-than-described item than to be disappointed to find undisclosed flaws.
