EBay removing threatening comments

I've been selling steadily on eBay for 21 years, over 11,000 feedbacks. I have no negatives, no neutrals. I always take care of my buyers, no exceptions. I listed a $1 1882-O/S Morgan for 99c 10-day auction. This clown messages me that the two close-up images of the mintmark are two different coins. It is a declarative statement, not an inquiry. I write him back explaining how he's wrong. I stick to the facts, maintain professionalism, and don't attack the guy personally. Then, in response to my explanation, the fellow says that he has a friend who is a forensic photographic expert, so rather than accepting that the lighting is playing tricks on his eyes, he's escalating the matter to prove that he's correct. So I write him back and I tell him that it is a GREAT IDEA that he involves a forensic photographic analyst. I tell this fellow that his analysis is invited and will PROVE beyond all doubt that the two images are the same coin. The fellow threatens that he's going to report me and tell all of his friends what a crook I am. EBay removed all of this clown's commentary. My only recourse is to block this buyer. My feeling is that eBay is acting very unprofessional by deleting this person's threats from my messages. EBay is protecting a low-IQ and abusive person. I'm not a happy camper.

@avenuecoin

Sorry for your situation.  YOU can also report this person for buyer abuse and harassment:

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/resolving-buyer-issues/report-issue-buyer?id=4084&st=3&pos=2&query...

Make sure you block them as well.  No one deserves this type of abuse.

Happy 4th!

Where is it that you need Ebay to remove comments from?  The emails you got from them?

You have good reason to be concerned.  You can report the emails for being inappropriate right from that email.  You should do that.

I would also block the buyer so they can't purchase anything.  Heck I would have done that right after their first nasty email and I would not have responded.  But that is just me.

Then I would report the buyer for abusive behavior and foul language.

Stop communicating with them, it only makes things worse.  It isn't going to help anything.

Personally I wouldn't tell them they are wrong and be confrontational.

I'd just say I'm sorry you feel that way and block them if I feel they are being inappropriate.

All this back and forth banter is unnecessary.

Are you saying the emails he sent you vanished completely, before you had a chance to report him to eBay or any other actions occurred?  Is there any record of him writing to you at all, so you can copy his username to add to your BBL?

If eBay really did delete his emails I agree that would be very concerning.  They shouldn't whitewash harrassment and threats like that.

I would suspect that eBay still has access to those emails messages

@avenuecoin

That is unusual, and have never heard of eBay doing that. Doesn't mean they don't, of course, and glad you are telling us about your experience.  Is the person still a registered user?  Could be that he got naru'd and all traces of the guy are removed, or he has been doing it consistently enough, and reported enough he is getting a vacation from messages...LOL...

I agree with @robbie31415 in that is not to your advantage to engage in a back and forth with someone like this.  It is usually best to ignore.  I am far from a coin expert, but I had some sort of proof set for sale (not here) that was minted in various metals like  copper, brass, silver plated, and silver.  I had someone offer their advice that mine was not silver.   I just said something along the lines of "thank you for viewing my listing" and moved on.   Some people are simply not worth engaging with at all, because then they don't shut up!!! LOL....

So I have been on eBay since 1999.  This year I had a similar circumstance, but with a totally different type of item.  The buyer was completely abusive to me.  They had purchased a sweatshirt and then when they received it opened up a return all based on lies.  It was a modern version of a Led Zeppelin 1974 logo on a modern sweatshirt.  They claimed it wasn't as described (said I claimed it was vintage when it was not)...   Right before that they left me a 3 sentence negative feedback with photos (all lies and misrepresentation including a "hair ball" that they put on the sweatshirt ).  eBay said they couldn't take the negative feedback down until the return case closed.  So, they never shipped the return back, and eBay did take down the negative untrue feedback, BUT this abusive buyer is still on eBay.  90% of feedback they have left is long form negative... I talked to eBay about them every way I could, yet nothing happened to them.

An outstanding seller such as yourself need never explain one’s choices or decisions to a random critic. Instead, just report to eBay and file any future communications from the “lost soul” to an unread folder.

All these replies, all virtually instantaneous, seems contrived, as if people are hanging on this board just waiting for a person like myself to issue a comment. I'm sure that we all have busy lives and better things to do, especially on the day before a major holiday, rather than hanging on this board......The thing that really raises my suspicions: None of the five replies addresses my actual complaint. For certain I know how to block a buyer and I know when it is time to dis-engage from a conversation, but that wasn't my issue. My issue was that eBay is editing/eliminating message content from my message record. I think that these replies are most if not all AI generated. CREEPY that five responses would appear in a matter of minutes, none of them addressing my actual issue. I may not be long for this platform. JMHO

You're the ONE RESPONDER who seems to fully understand my concern. The threatening comments were indeed whitewashed  from my message center AFTER I reported the member and AFTER I had dis-engaged and blocked them from ever harassing me again. Thank you for your understanding! My observation is that eBay is acting to defuse contentious/threatening/abusive messaging. To my way of thinking it IS A WHITEWASH.

Precisely!

This community board is a very strange place where 95% of the responses avoid the real issue.

Only you see your messages.

If you want to keep them (and why would you bother?) you could cut and paste them into a text document to savour at your leisure.

Block the nitwit.

And of course, learn to recognize trolls and don't feed them.

No doubt they do, but to obscure critical comments from MY view, well..... I have a problem with that.
