Is there a way to find out if becoming an eBay store is worth it?

There's no simple way, because there are so many variables.  Do you need more than 250 free insertions? Does a Store subscription offer lower final value fee rates in the categories you sell in? Do you need other store benefits such as sorting your listings into categories?  Do you sell enough to make the cost of a Store subscription worthwhile?  Note that the benefits of the "Starter" store level are very limited.

It depends. What were you hoping to get from it?

You have been on eBay since 2001 and are already a TRS. Take a look at your historical numbers and think about your future plans and do a cost benefit analysis. As others stated figure out what you would gain from having a store compared with the costs of having a store. Due to the current slow down in sales a number of sellers have posted they are dropping their stores because their current sales are not covering the cost of the store.

In my opinion you would need to list a lot more than 250 items per month, and sell thousands of $$ per month.

You'll pay to get more "free" listings above 250. You have to balance the $.30 listing fee for listings above 250 Vs.  how many items above 250 you are going to list.  If you sell thousands of $$$ per month,  the slight reduction in the eBay fee may save you more than the store fee per month.

I see no advantage to getting a store just so you can say you have an eBay store.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.

Yes, there is a way.

You simply look at the benefits and drawbacks to a store, and compare them to the benefits and drawbacks to not having a store.

Then you look at your own business and decide whether the store is "worth it". But no one here knows exactly what "worth it"  means to you, so no one here can make that decision for you.
