EBAY.......Ya Better Figure It Out

eBay sales are faltering very very badly for way too many sellers.

Every seller has their own story, has their own unique situation, have been sellers for years, etc etc etc.

But they all have the same symtom.......Miserable Sales across the board.

Ebay...you better go find the RESET button really Quick.  Or else you will be following your loyal sellers into BK!!

Suggestion:

STOP trying to be AMAZON....it aint working! They got you beat!...There is only one Amazon...LIVE WITH IT.

You gotta go back to being EBAY...the EBAY that just killed it and made Everybody money.

And by the way we are fast approaching the GOLDEN QUARTER in retail.  Open your wallet and and start advertising your butt off!!

JUST DO IT!

Regards

Sell while the selling is good.

I for one am basically done here. Only thing left listed is some household junk waiting to go in a garage sale. No way I'm investing in any more inventory. Too risky. So many dad gum scams and ebay just sits there and allows it even when buyers admit in writing that they are scamming the system.

Way too many changes and not for the good and they just keep coming with a new glitch under each arm. Really fed up with ebay. It's become intolerable here.

Saw this over on the blog. Looks like a decade of greed, seller abuse and unfair policies has finally caught up to them.

"A few comparisons of 1 year performance 9/5/2017 to 9/5/2018

Etsy +171.65%
Amazon +102.13%
Kohls +94.01%
Target +56.14%
Best Buy +43.5%
Nordstrom +42.36%
Walmart +22.25%

ebay -11.71%"

It's become harder & harder to get top dollar selling items that people do not need to own , just too much competion here on eBay for manny sellers.

Bargain prices will sometimes motivate buying, but who wants to. sell their items below the maximum

price they hope & believe their items could realize here on ebay ?

The holiday season is fast approaching & sales should be picking up.

Yep , another reason to look forward  to the holiday season . I've heard  that the holidays are what keep some  retail stores in the black for the entire year . Perhaps we should look at it that way ? tulips

Exactly. This happens thousands of times a day. Ebay is reaping what they sow, and WE pay the price of all these potential buyers leaving and never coming back.

I will say it again,  Ebay is not failing because of some singular animosity towards sellers. It is slowly failing because the underlying business model is not as efficient as the Amazon's.  Ebay is efficent for selling collectibles, vintage items, used items, etc.  But that is not where the growth potential lies.  So as they attempt to optimize the platform for the new stuff the entire platform becomes shaky.  There are plenty of people  who are more than willing to risk the entire company to chase the dream of becoming the next Jeff Bezos.

My sales are great - although I'm not selling trading cards, fads that are long gone, overpriced items ect... Times change but many sellers don't. If you don't keep up with what's trending - what buyers want and have reasonable prices and good pictures and descriptinos - your items ren't going to sell.

eBay sales are faltering very very badly for way too many sellers.

eBay does not care about how sales are divided amongst individual sellers. They only care about the total amount of sales. And for every quarter for five years, eBay's year-over-year sales have been increasing - not decreasing.

Open your wallet and and start advertising your butt off!!

On another thread just a day or two ago, a seller critical of eBay demanded that they stop spending on advertising. Can't please everyone.

Actually they do care, which is why their algorithms  are designed to give preferential treatment (higher up on the pages) to newbie sellers so they will hopefully invest in a store and they also hide listings from the buyers to allocate the fewer buying dollars that appear to be spent on this site amoungst all the sellers so that they will continue to purchase their stores which allows Ebay to MAXIMIZE their revenues each quarter.  Since they began this conversion to the Product Pages instead of listings Ebay has become very dependent on the revenue generated by the month store fees.

Ebay has actually admitted that they give newbie sellers a big advantage in their first 6 months of selling.  Many times that boost seems to end the minute they invest in a store and Ebay has them hooked, especiall on the annual contract.

As for showing growth every year that is also based on an unaudited number which is the GMV.  GMV is the GROSS amount of sales, not the net effect after returns, promotional allowances or the refunds that Ebay eats.  So you are correct they have not show anything but positive GMV growth, but their costs that Ebay decides to classify below the line are never included in that number and have been growing a lot faster than the GMV has been.

Ebay only gives a boost to new sellers for a couple of months - there is no 6 months - I opened a new acct 6 months ago - sales were great for about 8 weeks - now I have to work for that visibility - but this is a job right - there are few jobs where a person doesn't have to put some work into it to get paid.
