I must say eBay has the best most helpful employees imaginable. I had a very bad experience with a buyer, and eBay employees went nonstop to help me. Whenever I called (which was a lot) anyone I spoke with was courteous times ten and more understanding than most psychologist. To not be so elaborate I will fill you in briefly. I sold an item and the customer received it and had it a couple days then wanted a refund. I couldn't figure out why because I know the buyer got a good deal and I shipped promptly and tried giving the best customer service possible. Anyway, I accepted the return, but when I received my item back it had been destroyed. I broke down in tears, but finally realized why he wanted to return it. I called eBay immediately and explained what had happened. At first all I could think was how I had been scammed and how wrong I had been done. I was in tears for days and thought there is no justice and how could someone do this to me. Then I became furious and all tears were gone. eBay asked me to be patient and they would try to help, but I really thought it was all over and the buyer had got away with ripping me off completely. I filed an appeal, and they told me I am covered under seller protection. Something I knew little to nothing about. They told me what to do file a police report and get it to them. After the police report things started changing and I finally felt a little bit of hope from this excruciating experience. But, I need to say when I called upset crying,the lady (eBay employee) also cried. Everytime I called I was treated in the kindest most respected way and words can't express just what that meant to me. eBay has the best group of people working for them imaginable. They were helpful, kind, and very considerate. They have helped me through this every step of the way, and I am letting you know they really care about their members and that means a lot. I don't ever want to go through something like this again, but without the eBay team members it would have been much worse. So just know eBay does care about its members and are there to help you when you need them.
So a million thanks eBay, you truly are an amazing company and the people you have helping your members are the cream of the crop and deserve a raise.!!

I have been buying and selling here for well over 10 years and every call I have ever made to discuss anything with a CSR has been pleasant. Yes, they have great people working here and I am grateful for that when I need them. Nice to see a positive post about this. I can only imagine how much these people deal with on a daily basis, including screaming angry people who make THEIR day not too pleasant.

Crying also works for speeding tickets....but only for girls....

Why is everyone raining of this person's pleasant experience?

Cause they are afraid of being positive? It might change the morale on here. LOL!!!!!!

I'd like to know what the final outcome was.....appeal won or lost by seller? Bet it was lost because that seems to be the usual outcome of cases like these. I have never been scammed like that....knock on wood but whenever I had to call customer service I have always been treated well. Most of the time they were able to help me. Guess I am pretty lucky so far. We have been selling seriously since 2012....not long enough I suppose!!

Hello, and welcome. Thank you for posting your thoughts. Glad to hear you found a silver lining in the occasional rain clouds of ecommerce.
Selling online has risks, as you experienced. They can’t be avoided. It helps to develop a tough skin so that problem transactions don’t upend your emotional life. Selling on eBay isn't for everyone. If you are going to tough it out, you must steel yourself and protect your tender heart. Things like “faulty” returns are a sad fact of selling life, but in my experience the overwhelming majority of buyers are honest, and most transactions go off smoothly without a hitch.
Some categories are more problematic than others, like smartphones for example, where scammers sometimes prey on the inexperience of new sellers. Like anything worthwhile doing, eBay has a learning curve and it takes time and patience to sort it all out sometimes. But you'll get there eventually if you are committed and tenacious. And do come to the forum if you have a question or concern. There are plenty of members, both buyers and sellers, who are willing to assist. You are not alone.
Just keep in mind the old adage, "it’s business, not personal." So hang in there, and best of luck to you in your future sales!

"I filed an appeal, and they told me I am covered under seller protection."
Being told that and what happens in the end could be different.
You found some empathetic and helpful people. That can be comforting.
But actually,
I'm surprised you were not given a warning.
I must say, with all due respect, you are violating ebay's policy on authentic goods. The $5600 sale was loaded with contradictions and violations. It made my head spin. The feedback was not good for you, damaging. I think I understand why the item was destroyed.
You have to have it authenticated before selling.
You actually said all this in the auction description;
"They all are for sure real."
"For that person that just wrote, all 4 cards are authentic."
"All 4 cards are very valuable, once authenticated."
"The cards are as is, how is, and there is no guarantee of authenticity"
"My Mantle is real, and the other 3 for 100%."
"I am selling these 4 cards to be Authentic 1952 Topps Baseball Cards. No these are not reproductions."
"These 4 cards are what you will receive AS-IS, no guarantee expressed or implied."
Ebay's policy;
"If you can't verify an item is authentic, it can't be listed on eBay. You also can't add a disclaimer to a listing or product saying you're not sure whether or not the item is genuine."
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/authenticity-disclaimer-policy?id=433...
From another auction;
"NO GUARANTEE OF THIS 1952 TOPPS MICKEY MANTLE TO BE AUTHENTIC"
"I am about 98 % for sure this card is real.."
"I traded some really nice 1953s for this card and the guy assured me it was authentic, but by me not knowing for 100% I am offering this card as a reproduction"
Authenticate!

Truer words were never spoken.

Also you are not supposed to put "no bids from bidders with under ten feedback". That is unenforceable and against Ebay rules. Most buyers know that, and they can bid at the last second to avoid your cancelling their bid.
Please come back and update this thread as to what happened next~and if you got your money back.

I am glad you had a good experience with Ebay Customer Service, though.

I can totally understand why the buyer would return them just looking at the photos they seem to be reproductions not originals

I just read your comment, and a smile, combined with my coffee went on the keyboard
Some people don't understand a little bit of fun is good for the spirit.
I have had some 95% good results from calling Ebay CS. The other 5% are situations that make you humble, and in a mood to go out, buy an M16 and go postal, but that is just a joke.
I had a situation 2 weeks ago or so where I made 3 calls, 3 different options I was given. If they had told me on the first call what the third CS rep told me, I would have saved $32 in shipping.
Oh well! Live and die said James Bond.
