Duplicate listing

I noticed lots of duplicate items are listed from other sellers and it is not removed. Many from some sellers.  Is duplicate listing ok if you have a store? I’m just a small seller without a store and sometimes I list more then other times. Occasionally I had a duplicate and immediately there is a message not permitted to duplicate like I got in trouble. Why are some sellers allowed duplicate listing.

Duplicate listings are a policy violation and sellers who have them open themselves up to problems.

Why does it seem like some sellers get away with it? They haven't been caught yet. While it feels unfair for some listings to blatently flaunt the rules, and not get sanctioned, there is little to be done about it.

You can report the infraction to eBay, but don’t be surprised if it doesn't come down. Ebay does not divulge how or what they do to chronic offenders. Here is the link to the policy:

Duplicate listing

@cat20sew

Morning, I found the same thing until I figured out (but not sure) if a seller does a promoted listing both the promoted listing and the original listing without the promotion shows up...I may be wrong, but have seen it going on in search. Am sure others who are more knowledgeable than me and who use the promoted listing format will come along here to explain.

I ain't got the brains to make this up (Fantastic Beasts)

Duplicate listing

I didnt have time to edit my first post, but wanted to add that the duplicate listings you see could be exceptions to the rule. From the Duplicate Listing policy page:

“...How can I sell multiple identical items?

There are a number of ways to do this without violating our duplicate listings policy, including:

  • Listing identical items in one multi-quantity fixed price listing using the advanced listing tool
  • Creating auction-style listings
  • Listing items with variations, such as size and color, in one fixed price listing with variations using the advanced listing tool

You can also have up to five fixed price listings for identical items made to fit specific products, models or brands — like phone chargers, connector cables, or auto parts...”

Due to a simple loophole, they're actually not duplicate listings: Notice that they differ by 2 random letters at the end of the title. In this way, each is deemed a unique listing.

The ones I've seen have been the same listing, just presented twice - once at the top and then again below it with the other listings.   I find it really annoying, when I'm buying as I've wasted time clicking on both only to find they're the same listing.  Not identical.  The same.  Same listing # and everything.

Duplicate listing

The seller probably edited the title slightly. Also if you hit seller similar and relist something for 5.99 and forget to delete it from the unsold column. You can accidently relist the same item if you change the price to 5.00. Last week I had 3 duplicate items out of 500 listings. All were errors . Of course, I immediately edited them to 3 totally different items.

Now if the seller is from China, many have multiple IDs and will list multiples of the same items . Everything is exact. The photos, the text, the price, the incorrect English. Yet , when I check, the IDs are different. Since IPs are secret in China, they getaway with this nonsense. Even if suspended , they are back again listing as soon as they complete the registration.

Don't do duplicate listings intentionally even if you have a lot of stock. Perhaps, you can list differently. Example sell 1 1/2 bolt and your next listing would be 2 1/2" bolts (or whatever your item.) Can you pair the bolt with a nut? Make that one your 3rd listing. So , when a buyer looks, it's NOT 3 identical listings. If selling clothing that is identical, make sure that you add the size to the title and that will NOT make it identical assuming that the clothing is different sizes.

Duplicate listing

as with everything ebay related, it depends on who you are.

example: item 153567025349. This seller lists from 20 to 50 of EACH of his items, simply adding a number at the end of the title. Listings are identical.

Of course, he only has a couple dozen items, but well over 400 listings.

And he also includes his phone NUMBERS in most of his listings.

All this is okay with ebay, as they continue to ignore violation reports.
