Drop Down Box

I have about 400 lps listed for sale, but would like to start selling cds, all at the same price.  How do I create a drop-down box to list them all instead of listing each one individually? I called eBay, and they sent me thru Variations, but I could never make it work.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Variation listings is the way it would be done, but I can tell you that's not a good way to do that particular type of listing.  Many customers hate those types of listings, and they can be hard to manage from your side too.  If they're not just variations of the same disc, which I would guess they're not, they would be better listed individually.  Much easier for customers to find what they're looking for, and less effort for you despite what you might expect.

As an avid multi variation user, I agree with @jonathanbrightlight

It's annoying to see a multi variation listing with tons of choices, but all out of stock except for like 2 options.

Not only does it look super cluttered and confusing, having everything under the sun and the kitchen sink all in one multi-variation listing gives off the vibe that you're the type of seller who tries to use questionable tactics and exploits to make sales. It'll make me wonder what else the seller would be sneaky about.

Yes, far more suitable for something like a single t-shirt, with variations for different colors and sizes.

I've tried the variation listing approach for LPs... it was a complete waste of time.

Not a good idea to do a variations listing.

A variations listing would be better suited for....

A toy in different colors.

A shirt in different sizes.

A candy in different favors.

400 different artists/titles of LP should be listed separately.

It's actually not allowed to use variations this way or at least has not been allowed, but we got this same question yesterday about CD's & the OP said that they were told by an eBay CSR that it was fine to do.   I do know that although it wasn't allowed, every time I've reported one, it's never been taken down & as a frequent CD buyer, I also know that lots of people do it.

So, I will put forth once more to devon@ebay kyle@ebay elizabeth@ebay kayomi@ebay   same question as I paged you guys on for the CD seller yesterday after working hours.  eBay is apparently telling people it's ok to do this now.  Is this a policy change?

You can expect a listing with 400 variations to take approximately 400 times longer than it takes to make a single listing.   It isn't a quick way around.

I see a lot of clothing competitors who sell their shirts with different colors and sizes. But then at the very bottom choice you see they sell a rinky dink sticker, or plastic cup for like $2. These sellers try to capitalize hoping the algorithms will bump their listings up due to having the cheapest price. I've reported these listings saying the violation reason that seller listed item in wrong category (stickers or cups don't belong in the clothing category). I did one just recently even, only to get:

"We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made using automation or artificial intelligence. "

So I guess doing that shady tactic is allowed by ebay policy. You are allowed to list items in the wrong category according to AI.

I was reporting them way before AI, the CD & LP people jewelry as well & have never seen eBay take action on one.

@ddavisrecords

Here are some policy pages that will help you create variation listings if they are allowed in the category you are selling in as they aren't allowed in all categories.

Good morning @ddavisrecords.

We would like to echo what @jonathanbrightlight has stated and share some further information as well.

For variation listings he list of categories allowing MSKU listings changes from time to time. The best way to determine if MSKU is available for a category is to start creating a listing and see if the multi-variation option is available to you. If you have not disabled it, a pop-up message appears every time you list an item in a category where multi-variations are available. However, for the particular items you are selling we would not recommend selling your particular items under variations. We hope this helps!
