Their glorious first world postage system does not track small international tracked and signed for letters/packages and you will be out of your product and money thanks to ebay and paypal policy if the buyers opens an Item not received case.. Sending anything that starts with RR and similar is pointless.
Just went against my better judgement and sent something there thinking that "meh it will be fine this time", but of course it didn't.
Shipping cost me $25 from Norway btw.
This is just to create awareness of the issue of sending to Canada.

ebay and paypal should inform their clients about this issue since it is a massive security flaw.
Sellers need to take responsibility and research shipping methods

It's the same for sending to Canada or the US. The problem is some European countries still want to use lettermail services for parcels, which means Canada and the US (or any other receiving country) get paid next to nothing to deliver those packages. Registered was a cheap band-aid solution in the early ecommerce days to add tracking to parcels that could still qualify as lettermail class. Registered means UPU lettermail class. With lettermail terminal dues rates the sending country retains almost the entirety of the postal charge and the receiving country gets pennies on the dollar. As a result Canada and the US could really care less about delivering them in a timely manner or providing value added services like tracking. The US and Canada have been trying to encourage European countries to utilize parcel services (UPU Post Expres) which are all available to them, but some holdout countries would rather gouge their domestic customers with parcel-like charges for lettermail services and reap the profits. The ire should be directed at the senders postal service for not adopting to the times like most other European UPU members. The UK has a similar problem where they are still trying to use registered mail as a signature requirement. UK Senders should be using international tracked versus tracked and signed for North America as international tracked gets sent by Post Expres rather than registered lettermail.

@numisnorway wrote:Yes that is a given, but i did send it with tracking. The problem is that the Canadian postal service does not scan registered packages even from other western countries because supposedly the subsidized packages from china was such a huge problem for their workload.
Canada does not scan registered letters/small packets. You can of course send with tracking, but in the end it does not matter since they treat all the post as regular letters/small packages without tracking which enables buyers to just open up an "inr" and get an automatic refund from the buyers account courtesy of the generous ebay/paypal system.
USPS for instance tracks shipments like these, same with the Russian postal service which today is excellent might i add, heck even the Baltic countries have better routines than Canada post.
Point is that this is something that needs to be spoken about. Sellers need to safeguard themselves from this potential abuse and I'm sure ebay and payupppal does not do so in any way.
tl:dr if you live in Europe and are thinking about sending small packages to Canada then don't.
I have shipped perhaps 50 packages to Canada over the years, never had an issue. Mind though I have never shipped anything Registered, just first class international and Priority international.

I just shipped one (First Class International) a little under two weeks ago. It showed tracking all the way to delivery.

Canadian postal rates are high enough as it is. I don't even use Canada post but rather courier items to new York so i will actually be able to sell my coins to usa customers without asking for $16 in postage to usa or $12 in postage to mail it to the next town.

Sorry, it is trackable but you have to get your post office to contact Canada Post to track it as it is not trackable on line.
Sadly none of that will matter to ebay. It needs to be online viewable to fight an inr.

I've shipped hundreds of packages to Canada with no problems - first class international. Even my customers in the Yukon have gotten their items in surprising time, considering the conditions.
