Does ending listings hurt your account/algorithm?

I am referring to when you have to end a listing because it was sold somewhere else. Does this hurt your "performance metric" or whatever it's called?

If you can, please suggest which reason to use when ending a listing so that way my account won't be affected.

It depends. I do this all the time, 3-4 listings per week, without any impact or very minimal impact. The minimal impact being the loss of the $.30 listing fee if you had to pay for that when you listed the item.

Ending a listing because you sold it elsewhere for BIN items has no impact provided there was/is not an offer outstanding on the item.

For auction type listings there is not impact as long as there are no bids or offers on the item, there is no reserve on the auction and there is at least 24+ hours left before the auction ends.

I do not use PL so will have to defer to those that do use it as to the implications with regards to PL.

I end listings all the time.  EBay does not ask for a reason.  If you are uncomfortable you can also revise a listing and present it as another different product.

No... ending a listing doesn't hurt any performance metric. You don't even need a reason to end one. Rest easy.

Whenever I go on vacation for more than few days, I end all my listings on all six selling accounts. I end them in bulk and it does not ask for a reason.

I have never detected any negative impacts from that as far as placement or visibility, and there is no metric I am aware of that measures it.

Depending on the type of listing you chose there may not be any penalty for ending your listing:

Buy it Now: if it is a buy it now and you choose to end your listing there is no penalty.

Best offer: if it has an option to submit a best offer and there is no pending best offer then there is no penalty. If there is a pending offer you either need to declined the offer so then you can cancel the listing.

Auction: if your listing is an auction and there is no active bids then you can choose to end the auction however if there is one or more bids then you must allow the auction to close and in that case you are committed to sell and ship for what’s the auction closes at. If you choose to cancel any active bids you could risk having penalties and/or negative feedback or both.

Regardless of the type of listing if you have exceeded the number of free listings, and if you pay an insertion fee that may not be refunded even if you cancel. If you also purchased any add-ons when creating your listing that will also not be refunded.

Buy it Now: if it is a buy it now and you choose to end your listing there is no penalty. Does this apply to PL listings as well. I do not use those so I am not sure if you end a PL listing if there are PL fees associated with doing so.

Best offer: if it has an option to submit a best offer and there is no pending best offer then there is no penalty. If there is a pending offer you either need to declined the offer so then you can cancel the listing.

If you choose to cancel any active bids you could risk having penalties and/or negative feedback or both. A couple of exceptions. If there is under 24 hours remaining on the auction and you end it you will pay the final value fees on the starting price regardless of whether there are bids or not. In addition if you have a reserve set on the auction you will pay the final value fees associated with the auction price.

Regardless of the type of listing if you have exceeded the number of free listings, and if you pay an insertion fee that may not be refunded even if you cancel. If you also purchased any add-ons when creating your listing that will also not be refunded.

@futuristicgains

No, ending "Buy it now" listings will not hurt your performance.

I have other store on etsy, when i sell an item at etsy, i end the same item on ebay.

I do this all time without any problems.

100% YES!!! It hurts your account every time.  I Sell about 10 items a day on ebay with an inventory of 1800.  The way it hurts your account is that eBay wont give you as much visibility, and my sales always go down that day or the next day.  Try it.  End 10 items, and see for yourself.  I ended several (4-6) items each the last few days, and my sales went from 10 to 6 or 7 each day.  And I have noticed this drastic thing happen everytime I end old listing that havent sold for over a year.  I like the suggestion to never end one, just use it to change the listing to another item.  Besr wishes.

This is quite the assumption, based on a very thin pile of evidence.

I end auctions all the time and have never noticed any adverse impact and over a few time periods it actually increased after I had ended a few auctions. Hard to prove a factual correlation between the two let alone the fact that eBay is sanctioning your listings as a penality.
