Does anyone know how to refund a buyer when you dont have any money in your paypal ?

This lady said her item was broken so I told her I would refund her now.

But when I tried to paypal said I cant because I have no money in there.

I have money in my bank but dont know how to transfer it to paypal.

any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi, the above link will take you to the help page with instructions. Since it can take up to 5 days to complete the transfer, I've always felt it is a safe practice to keep a cushion in my PP to cover possible returns.

In Paypal "add funds" and select the bank account to draw from.

It will take a day or two.

She should open a Dispute to "keep the problem and the bookkeeping on record".

She has 30 days from delivery to do this.

Don't be surprised if she stops communicating.

You need either a picture of the broken item OR the item returned. You would have to pay for the broken item, but it might help you to pack better in future.

Keep in mind that your package might have a 50lb shipment drop on top of it from a height of two feet. Your packing has to withstand that.

While all this is going on, attach a credit card to your Paypal account and you will never have to worry about not being able to refund again.

Because you have MANAGED PAYMENTS...all money goes into your bank account.  Refunds must be made through EBAY (not PayPal). 

To issue Refund go to SELLER HUB, ORDERS (find that order) and click DOWN ARRROR (select SEND REFUND).   EBAY will return Seller Fees and you will have proof that you Refunded Customer.

What I have done before is get cash from my bank account and go to CVS and they will deposit the money to the PayPal account...on the PayPal app go to add funds from store, you pick which store you want to send from and it gives you a barcode and the store clerk will scan it, the money will show up on your PayPal account in about 10 minutes..HTH

You'll need to go to your Pay Pal  account and request a transfer of funds  from your bank account  to your Pay Pal account . My bank takes 3 to 5 days to make the transfer . Once the money is there you can refund the buyer .  🙂

I'm not in Managed Payments (because they won't let me attach an American bank account to a Canadian MP account).

But it is my understanding that MP does not allow balances to accumulate.

So if I sell something for $100 on Tuesday and the money is moved to my bank account on Friday there is no money in my MP account.

If the buyer and I agree that the $100 should be refunded on return of the unwanted $100 item, there is no money in my MP account to refund.

If I have made no sales, or if my MP account has been emptied while the $100 item is being returned, or if I only have $50 in my MP account, how does eBay refund the buyer?

This will be more of a problem for the occasional seller than for the seller who has multiple sales every week.
