Does Blocking a buyer demanding $5 refund prevent bad feedback?

I sold an item for $10, the buyer said it is damaged, so I offered her refund and to send it back, postage paid by me. She refused my offer and demands $5. Now she threatens "neutral" feed back. If I block her does that prevent her from leaving bad feedback?

If she threatened you with feedback, what you need to do is REPORT her.

@weyland_pubs

No.  Be advised that your feedback rating no longer counts for your seller rating or metrics...So essentially, what the buyer is saying is:  If you don't do what I say, I am going to hit you with this wet noodle.

Report the buyer, put them on the BBL and move on.  The threats in eBay messages will be grounds for removal if the red donut should appear.

Will they remove a neutral?

Yes - they'll remove feedback on grounds of extortion.  Don't let this person push you around.  She can return it for full refund, as you offered.

I would tell the buyer to open a Return Request and you'll be happy to refund. Also tell her that any neutral or negative feedback left by her will give you no choice but to report her for feedback extorsion.

Its phony.

If its damaged no one wants to keep it for half price.

Tell her to open a case and return for a full refund.  That is the normal ebay process.

Also alert ebay that she is threatening to use the feedback process to blackmail a partial refund when you said return for full refund.  Report her.  Then if she does you can get the feedback removed as this violates ebays feedback policy, and her account will be dinged.

EBay takes "feedback extortion " seriously.

Ummm-- no.

You could be considered as threatening too.

Don't give her a warning, just do it.

I did tell her to open a case so everything is on the up and up.

It's a souvenir pillowcase and she says it's ripped. She says she can get her friend to repair it. I'm kinda leaning to give her the $5, but I just can't quite bring myself to accommodate someone going outside the protocol.

PLEASE don't give her the money.  When you do this, you encourage people like her to keep doing this to the rest of us. For higher dollar amounts.
I mean did she even send a photo of the rip?  Is it possible that you did send it already ripped?  Even if so, making a direct threat to give someone negative or neutral feedback if you don't refund some dollar amount is unacceptable.
For goodness sake, we sellers don't have many rights, so please don't waive this one.

Well then heres what i think you need to confirm this. Ask for a couple pics clearly showing the damage for your records, that its your business policy in order to confirm a valid condition for a partial refund.  If its real, do the partial.  If she doesnt want to send the photo, reiterate opening a case.

I am not even sure you should even consider it though given she threatened feedback extortion. I would doubt she will want to send a photo, as she's probably making it up, given the fb extortion attempt.

Seems like the number of postings about buyers phishing for a discount has risen drastically in the past several months. If she has not opened and official refund request through eBay or a NAD case ignore her and add her to your blocked bidders list.

STAND YOUR GROUND ! A neutral feedback is completely irrelevant. You have a chance to reply to it and it does NOT affect your feedback percentage.

Don't let them push you around.

I wouldn't mention anything about feedback.  Just ignore that aspect in any communications.  Don't open the door for anyone to say "well, you said this about feedback - and that felt like extortion to me!".

You are not required to educate disruptive buyers on what behaviors are going to draw eBay's attention.  Odds are, they've done this before but the other sellers didn't bother to report -- they just gave away profits and another bad buyer was created.  Any buyer, or seller, who is disruptive to the normal commerce conducted on the site should be referred to the site.  Let eBay figure out what to do with them.
