Do they realize what they are costing themselves?

As a credit card buyer, man is it frustating to see stuff sell for pennies on the dollar because the seller requires "linked accounts" and further more won't take questions.  So you can't even contact them.

Every reporting agency, (experion, transunion, equifax) and most all security agencies, (lifelock, lok'd up, etc)  advise AGAINST linking accounts.

PayPal takes credit cards, no need to require linking.

Just saw a $250 knife sell for .99 Cents.

Sure hope that percieved "sense of security " was worth $249 to him.

I don't think you understand what "linking" means in this context.

It was actually the idiocy of listing an item as a 99 cent auction that cost him $249.

Never list an item for less than you are willing to take for it.

As noted in one of the other posts, that's NOT what "linked" means in this case. It's not an automatic login. It's just a one-time "ping" to make sure that you  HAVE a PayPal account.

Buying with only  a credit card gives you less Buyer Protection than linking your cc to Paypal.

While the first level of Protection is eBay, the PP Buyer Protection  not only starts sooner but gives the buyer a longer protection period.

In addition, it works quite smoothly with eBay, since much of the necessary information has already been shared (dates, currency, payment amount, shipping information).

While a credit card may give you chargeback protection, it takes much longer and requires more time on the 1-800 line to explain the problem to a bored clerk.

Can you please post a link. I have heard of high priced items ending at 99 cents and have been searching for years and never found one.

Actually, I had to do a chargeback on 2 items I purchased here on Ebay. The seller cancelled both items, but was doing it at the same time I was paying for them. So as soon as I paid, I got a message saying buyer cancelled transaction. So I wait for the refund to show like it normally does with a cancel. And nothing happened.

I WAS charged for the two items, and no refund ever was sent back. So I tried opening with Ebay about the glitch, and that was a freaking nightmare. Gave up. Contacted seller and asked if they would just hit the refund button because the credit is not showing and she's nope, it's automatic, not refunding twice, to which my explanations fell on deaf ears. She advised I just need to wait.

Already annoyed she has cancelled two items I bought to have shipped together, and immediately cancels, I contact Paypal. Two cases open and both are denied. Don't even remember why. What the? I'm really angry now, I'm out $150, and the SELLER cancelled. Why is my money all tied up?

So I get online with my bank's website, hit dispute a charge, write brief comment about what happened. They immediately put the money back in my account, took the investigation from there, advised I may have the funds removed if it turns out to be a valid charge, which I know it's not, so I really had nothing to worry about. Received an email a couple of weeks later saying, "case closed". Done. And way easier than trying to deal with Ebay or Paypal.

From what someone told me here, the seller got hit with a $20 chargeback fee, and I felt bad about that, but I also felt like I gave her the chance to help and she was pretty rude about it. Neither here nor there, my point, the credit card/bank was the easiest I could ask for.

I don't think the OP is talking about "linking" (do you mean "registering") a CC with PayPal. They're referring to creating a link between their eBay and PayPal accounts.

And I can buy with a CC through PayPal without going through the formal "linking" process, as long as the seller doesn't use that block. The only purpose of the link is to give the seller some assurance that I'm not a scammer or sport bidder.

I've found a few. I did my end zone dance when I won them. Unfortunately, I also spiked the mouse.

I can't bid because the seller requires, either knowingly or unknowing, that in order to bid on their item the bidder must have linked PayPal accounts. I have been told by sellers, I don't know, I'm a buyer, that PayPal automaticly defaults to "must have linked acct's" when you sellers list items, and that you have to "un-click" that default if you want to reach a larger buyers pool....say people like myself that buys C.C.

The sellers that have been polite enough to accept questions are the one's that provided me with this information, corrected their listings so that I could bid, and later thanked me for putting more money in their pockets, EVEN IF I wasn't the successful bidder !

It seems simple to me, the whole idea is for you sellers to make a buck. Why leave money on the table ?

I could be wrong but I don't think that it is automatically set up like that. I have always thought that a seller had to specify that they allow purchases only if the buyer has a PP account.  I've never understand how doing that gives me extra security as a seller so I don't use it.

And I'm sure there are people here who are wondering whether your unwillingness to learn how eBay works is worth missing out on all those bargains.
