Divulging email address

I have a buyer who wants to use PayPal to pay me, and he's texting me and saying that PayPal he needs my email address that's registered with PayPal to "complete the purchase for maximum precautionary measures." That sounds a little fishy to me. Is there any reason I should give out my email address? I did set up a PayPal payment name, and gave that to him. But he says he needs my "email address registered with PayPal."

Your Blocked Buyer List is here: https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/BuyerBlock?

Your Unpaid Purchases page for automatically closing Unpaid items and giving deadbeats an Unpaid slap is here: https://www.ebay.com/Cancel/Preference/UnpaidPurchase

(There is also an exception list maintained on that page if you want to exclude buyers whom you're allowing to pay late.)

Your Buyer Management page for screening buyers with Unpaid slaps in their history is here: https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements

You can view the results of your screening for Unpaid buyers on your Buyer Requirements Activity Log here: https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/blockedbuyeractivities

No, if you have accepted his offer, the sale is considered to be made (though unpaid), so you will need to wait until Day 5 after the sale in order to cancel it with the reason of "Buyer did not pay" (unless you have automatic cancellations set up; link is above).

If you have not accepted his offer, then ignore it. The BBL should keep him from interfering further with your sales.

@stephens9158   IT'S A SCAM - don't do it.

They do not need your paypal address, the "complete the purchase for maximum precautionary measures" is bunk. Block this person, do not correspond with them.

ETA: And good on you for coming here and asking first - not everyone does that and it doesn't end well. This is a common scam.

It is a SCAM do not reply back. If they have a PayPal account then they can pay you through eBay like everyone else. Most likely they won't pay and you will have to wait until eBay cancels the purchase and relist.

Your instincts are good.  It's a SCAM.  He does not need your email address to pay for an eBay purchase with PayPal.  Ignore the email and block the guy.

no,no,no,no...If You are in the USA, Managed Payments is eBay's payment processor for the USA. If the buyer wants to use PayPal he does so through the payment process at time of purchase and that means he has NO need for ANY of your PayPal info. I suspect you are looking at a scammer. My advice: withdraw from ANY further correspondence/interaction with this person and BLOCK the user...This is not worth the risk!

Thank you everyone that replied. Incidentally I also posted that question on PayPal Messages, and was told it was OK to give my email address out. So I did, and sure enough the guy came back with the gift card routine. So I'm blocking his phone number and going on ebay to block his seller.

Sellers cannot accept Paypal. We are now required to register with Managed Payments,which can accept Paypal.

Which is not particularly relevant since this is a basic setup for a

SCAM!!
