Dispute deadline

I am still confused about the dispute deadline.  Are buyers allowed to open a dispute 90 days after the transaction date?  A buyer opened 2 disputes on me today, and they bought both items 92 & 91 days ago (feb 21 and feb 22).  Maybe ebay allowed it because it was so close to the 90 day threshold, but i dont know

Buyers can file for a return/refund through eBay's Money Back Guarantee within 30 days of delivery if the item is not as described. This is not referred to as a dispute.

 

Buyers who use PayPal for purchases have 180 days from the date of purchase to file for a return/refund if the item is not as described. This is referred to as a dispute.

 

Buyers who pay via credit card for purchases have whatever timeframe their credit card issuer allows for a refund. By law, buyers have a minimum of 60 days from the date of the statement on which the transaction appears; however, most credit cards in 2022 offer 120 days. This is also referred to as a dispute.

EBay allows disputes for 30 days from Delivery, not from purchase.

So if the buyer only received the purchase two months after payment, she had another month to complain.

 

For the record, even if the seller has a No Returns policy, he is allowed to demand the return of the item before refund, although he may be required to pay return shipping.

You can have a No Returns policy, but you cannot have a No Refunds policy.

 

In addition, Paypal allows 180 days from payment for dispute, although the buyer will be required to pay for the return of the purchase.

And while card policies differ, what you are seeing may be a credit card chargeback. Often cards allow six months from payment for those.

Buyers are allowed to open a claim after the 30 days but ebay will not get involved or make a decision on the outcome.  It is up to you how you want to handle the claim. But that only applies with an eBay claim. The buyer can srill open a claim with their payment provider.

Did you find the dispute on this page or on this page? If it's on the second page, what does it say  under the "type" column @flavoredmilk?

 

The first page is for return requests filed through eBay. The second page is for 3 types of requests/disputes:

- item not received requests filed through eBay

- return requests filed through eBay that have been escalated to a case (this wouldn't apply to your OP as whatever was filed happened today)

- "payment disputes" filed with the buyer's payment processor

 

Buyers can file requests through eBay for up to 60 days past delivery (or estimated delivery if nothing was delivered). MBG is only applicable for the first 30 days, beyond that eBay will not allow either buyer or seller to escalate.

 

If the request was filed through the buyer's payment processor then the timeline depends on the buyer's method of payment and their bank/CC policy.

 

If the type column says payment dispute, then look under the details column and see what it says as the reason - you can win some reason filings but not others. If you would like assistance with responding to the request/dispute, let us know the type and reason.
