I have 5 items for sale (coins) I asked if it was okay to offer them at a 40% discount from what I had them listed, for the reason during this pandemic I have found it harder and harder to make ends meet. The only reason I have them listed in the first place is to generate some cash. The items I have listed did not have any bids or offers and I figured some money would be better than no money. So I contacted EBAY and asked if I could do that and I was told no so I was wondering how everyone felt about that.

I suggest taking them to a dealer and let them tell you what your coins are worth. A quick look from Ebay shows yours are 200% higher than others compared to condition.

I think this is a lame attempt to get people to look at your shop.
But do what you want. Discount them. Don't discount them. If you actually did contact eBay and they told you no, it's either because you talked to a moron or they didn't understand what you were asking.

I feel fine about it!
If you have a Store subscription you get Promotion Manager and can run sales with strike through discounted pricing.
If you don't have a Store subscription you can only actually revise the price lower.
It's one of the few valuable bonuses of having a Store.

To get your items sold quickly....you should do a EBAY search for same exact item as yours. As then click on SOLD (this will tell you price that others have sold item for).

The good parts of having a Store are slightly lower FVF, coupons for branded shipping supplies, and the ability to further organize your items (I think of having aisles in my shop.)
I did not know about the possibility of running discount sales.
The downside is a monthly fee whether you sell anything or not.
What a Store will NOT do is attract more buyers, or even Views.
Forty percent is too big a discount. Customers will think you are selling low grade merchandise.
Better would be to allow Best Offers and setting your parameters to accept automatically any Offer above ,say, 80% of catalogue value and automatically decline any Offer less than 60%.
