Is anyone else being unfairly dinged on their metrics because usps doesn’t always scan the eBay envelopes?

It has been mentioned here a few times.

I did get dinged a while back when one wasn't scanned at all. I was able to get it removed because luckily the buyer left feedback that it was delivered okay. This is mentioned on the dashboard where you can dispute a defect.
The bummer is that most don't bother with feedback so when the PO doesn't scan there is absolutely no account of what ever happened. Using the letter option is a gamble.

Not anymore, learned my lesson on that. I SCAN ALL MY OWN PACKAGES at the kiosk in the lobby at my post office. Trust them? Not where I live. At my location it will give me a receipt, send receipt to email or both. Hopefully that's an option where you live, it's the machine that you can print your own labels etc at most post offices. Good luck.

Does the kiosk scan the Intelligent Mail Barcode (IMB) on Ebay Standard Envelope?
(They're not talking about regular tracking numbers.)

They don't.
Do your envelopes ever get scanned? I may change it to five days at some point since it normally doesn't take more than a day or two to say least get an origin scan. But I set my handling time to ten days as a precaution.

good question, I'd hope so. I'd call usps 800 # I've had good outcomes with them. They have always answered the phone. Heck, I'd just try it, nothing to lose. I feel your pain, post office counter where I live is VERY unhelpful. Must say very unusual, everywhere else I lived I developed great relationships with the usps counter folks. That would be the 1st thing I'd do. Try build a relationship with them, ask them.

The scan code on eBay envelopes cannot be relied upon for proof of delivery. This has been the case since the eBay envelope service was introduced. There have been several threads about this problem over the years. I was going to try it for some non-sports cards I have, but after seeing the INR problems other sellers were having, I decided otherwise.

usps isn't responsible for the tracking on ebay envelopes... they literally have nothing to do with them, if they fail to scan they can just say "whatever, that isn't our service" ebay uses some 3rd party for those tracking labels.

The barcode gets scanned by sorting machines I think. Which is why it sometimes may have a couple days delay between it saying it's been delivered and actually delivered.
It isn't a code that can get scanned by the carriers, clerks, or the kiosks.

I'd at least try it once. I might be lucky because my area is pretty good about the initial scan once it hits the regional hub. Or the First Class mail sorting hub. Although Parcel Select can be fairly hit or miss.
But in my case at least, in 20 ESE's. One or two took up to three days to get an origin scan. The rest have gotten it same or next day. Which is why for now I'll keep handling time at 10 days until I feel comfortable enough to try 5 days.

When your carrier isn't doing the scanning of your envelopes / packages, politely remind them as to how important this process is for you since you sell on Ebay. If that doesn't work, talk with your local PO and ask for the Postmaster. That should resolve the issue as scanning the packages is part of the carriers job.
But for any reason if that doesn't work, go to USPS.com and file a complaint. It is up to you to get them to do their job. You can do it in a polite and professional way. I had the same problem a few years back. I talked to my carrier, that didn't work, so I talked to my local Postmaster and he took care of it. In all the years sense I do not have any issues.
But YOU are the one that is going to have to make the effort to resolve this issue.
As to the metrics, I assume you mean you are getting Defects on your Seller Dashboard.

I am assuming you are referring to one of the following 2 metrics as it relates to the initial scan when USPS takes possession of the item. I don't use the ESE that often but the I learned a long time ago to never simply drop anything at the PO without getting an initial scan and receipt.

This has been a fear of ours, we take each package to the counter for this very reason, we just don't trust having our packages picked up and prefer to hand deliver it in person at the front desk. It can be a pain as far as gas money and time, but the alternative is worse, we believe

We are new to the envelopes and haven't had issues with tracking yet, but since the envelopes are scanned internally and not at the front desk... it does worry us.. but I guess for the price, it's this way or paying 4 to 5 times the amount or more with 1st class right?
