Deadbeat Scamming Customer Files Return Request on Item they are now selling on Mercari

I posted earlier about a buyer making a false claim on a 10k ring we sold them a few days ago. This same buyer has an open return request for a the item and we discover they have this item now for sale on Mercari using our photos from ebay. I stumbled upon it today. Same customer, has her name on the Mercari account same ring. This person has a total of 10 purchases on ebay and 3 sells on Mercari, a newbie infrequent buyer (scammer) and seller on both websites. The customer was reported to ebay for their false claim and we sent a screenshot of the item for sale on the message system here to the buyer. We also warned the buyer that they better send us back what we sent. Unbelievable what these scammers will do on here.  We congratulated, LOL! THE BUYER FOR HER 300 PERCENT MARKUP ON THE ITEM. WE SOLD IT TO HER FOR LIKE 220.00. SHE HAS IT UP FOR SALE FOR 480.00 ON MERCARI.  The item is fairly rare so IMPOSSIBLE for this to be another ring this person has to sell OTHER than what we sent them.

Just in case. I have taken note of the different ID showing up on the buying account feedback. I I see that coming up in a sale I am going to run for my life.

CORRECT. Rugerskick. Somebody said to mr oh my goodness this person is now going to damage   my ring because I called them out on their lying behavior. Ya no so what? Principal to me is more important that the value of this little ring that I sold.

You are taking this way too personal, throwing labor hours in effort at a problem for reasons of "principle" is not good business. Also threatening a buyer whose intentions you are not clear on, you do not know their story, all you know is what you see from your end and many sellers here jump to their own conclusions based on those observations and I can guarantee from my own experience that those sellers are most likely wrong in their conclusions... That kind of accusation, even if you're sure, is not likely to work out well for you.

I know you don't care, you smell a fight and now you're ready to throw some kicks.
Those of us here who are a little older are trying to tell you, that is not a good idea.
If you come out fighting and you are in fact up against a true scammer then you have just given them fair warning and now they're prepared for you; not to mention it may come off as a challenge, too. In fact it could even push a good buyer to show you a thing or two just because they feel offended at your accusation and attitude towards them and they happen to know ebay and the MBG inside out.
So no, fighting what we perceive as a scammer is never a good idea.

What is a good idea is not to come out punching, but to come off as a meek little lamb.

Let them take you to the slaughter if they want, because that's where the true scammer will make their mistake and you can come out and cash in on that but if you're wrong then you've offended nobody.

The reason this turned out well is because we stood our ground. Not a bloody take the lamb to the  slaughter at all.  No nasty messages to this person.  We had evidence that something really fishy was going on and we did something about it. Never fight customers on here that is always our way as well, and we treat all of them with respect.

I usually find yours to be one of the most reasonable voices in a thread, but I either disagree with or don't understand your assertion in this case.  You're talking about risking offending a good buyer, etc.  -Did you miss the part about this buyer asserting 'fake gold' as her reason to start the INAD?  I don't know what categories you sell in, but you don't get much more gravely serious than gold when it comes to trust in online sales, especially at this moment when the spot price is skyrocketing to record highs with no sign of backing down, so people are seeking it on eBay like never before.

So considering that (and here's another example of how stupid this scammer was) of all the lies she could have chosen to do this return, crying "fake gold" is ...... well, FIGHTIN' WORDS in any jewelry seller's lexicon.  You simply DON'T accuse a seller of that when you know it's not true, and ESPECIALLY if you're trying to sell the same piece as real gold elsewhere.  I don't blame the OP for putting fear into her  .... exactly like she did and exactly WHEN she did.

Also it's strange to see someone tell someone else they're doing it wrong, after the fact, when what they did obviously got a good outcome.

I have a question I hope you  might be able to answer. I just checked my feedback on both of my accounts. The selling account and the buying account. When I go to view this buyers feedback on my seller account I get the same user ID as the original person purchasing, however, when I switch to my selling account I look at the feedback and this person has a totally different user ID next to that feedback. I am asking because if this is any indication that this person has done the ole start another account to scam somebody else I would like to know.

I can't say I've ever seen that before UNLESS the buyer has changed their Ebay ID.  We are allowed to do that once every 30 days.

"I am asking because if this is any indication that this person has done the ole start another account to scam somebody else I would like to know."  This is NOT a thing nor is it a "scam".  This isn't something anyone can do on Ebay.  Starting a new account will NOT change the buyer ID on an existing transaction.  The Buyer ID for a transaction is recorded at the time of the purchase.  The transaction can NOT get transferred to a different Buyer account.

As I said earlier, they could have changed their ID.  That is doable.

I MEANT when I switch from the selling to the BUYING account. Sorry, typed too fast. The ID’s are different for this person on the feedback when you view it from the selling account and the buying account.

When you view another seller's FB, you can't see buyer IDs, they are disguised.  So if you are signed in under your buying account and view your selling account, you can't see the actual buyer IDs.

I'm not so sure that is true.  I know it made you feel better and that is very important, but did it make a difference in how this Return Request turned out.  There is no way of knowing that.  Things could have ended in the same way this transaction ended without you calling the buyer out on having the item listed on another website.  We will never have the answer to that question.

Maybe we can't ever know if she would have sent the (actual) ring back or not, but the tail-between-her-legs positive feedback is proof that she was shown she's not as clever a scammer as she thought she was.

Yeah, she really went to a pawn shop and they gave her incorrect info. 🤣

Pawn shops who deal in jewelry know exactly what they are selling and they know how to test gold.

Yeah you are right, but I am sure glad I reported this, it most likely increased my odds of not getting scammed.

Really?  I find it hard to believe you have never looked at someone else's feedback pages.  I think we must be talking about two different things or something as I know you have.  If you look at my feedback, all the buyer IDs are disguised.  One member can't see the actual buyer names on another members account.  It has been like this for a few years now.
