Customer played switcharoo?

ours that we sent outours that we sent outwhat we got backwhat we got back

So I sold an item to a customer, and thankfully I sent him pictures of the product before it shipped out. He contacted me 2 days after receiving the item and said it was no good, and did I want him to ship it back.

I said yes, I would like the item back. It just so happens that I knew the owner of the vehicle that my part came off of and when I asked the previous owner of the vehicle if all the functions of the column switch worked properly, he said yes.

We only ended up with the vehicle because it had a bad engine, and we bought it from him to add to our salvage yard.

I thought the customer would use the ebay return route, but he didn't he just boxed it up and took it to the post office.

Upon opening the package, the first thing I noticed was how dirty the item was, we clean everything up as much as we can before we ship the item out. The second, and biggest thing is, as you will see, in one picture there is a yellow number written on it with a liquid ink pen. And the other picture, its not there.

Which leads me to believe, he sent us back his defunct switch, hoping I wouldn't notice.

What has peaked my curiosity is, out of all the ways customers can scam somebody on e bay, and get away with it virtually every time,  he didn't open any kind of case, such as INAD where I would have been forced to pay return shipping if I wanted it back.  He did nothing other than send me a message asking if I wanted it shipped back.

He sent me a message this afternoon saying he noticed that the item had been received and wanted to know when he would get his refund.

I haven't messaged him back about the discrepancy's between what we sent vs. what we got back. And calling e bay could get 5 different answers if I talked to 5 different people is what it seems like anymore.

What would be your advised next step?

Re: Customer played switcharoo?

Since it was a BIN item, not an auction, can I go into the blocked bidder list and just block him from buying, even if its not an auction item? I don't do auctions on e bay, I tried, I did my top 10 viewed items, with over a thousand views on some of them, and my top 10 watched items, some of which had over 200 watchers, never sold one thing.

Re: Customer played switcharoo?

I've got a number that I call and have always gotten a clear speaking english CSR.  But its still the same script they read from.

I did end up sending the customer pictures of both items, he instantly got defensive and said he watched the mechanic put the part in the box, and that it was our part. I simply told him I would refund the money, and would like to know what happened to our stock number written in yellow. He never responded, I refunded him and reported him, with the photo's included, and to get a little jab in at ebay, in the end I told them I didn't fight it because no matter the evidence, they were going to rule in the customers favor anyways.

So, I'm moving on, I've got over 76k more items to list, don't have time to argue with them or the customer anymore.
