I currently have a few New With Tags and receipt Chanel Bags. These will be sold for $4k+. I love the authenticity guarantee, however is there anything to protect the seller from a CC Chargeback? I did ask ebay for business this exact question, and here is there answer:
Thanks for sharing your concerns. We're confident you will have a smooth transaction with eBay's Authenticity Guarantee. A payment dispute can happen with any item in any business and it really is determined by the credit card company. Should a dispute be opened on an item that goes through our Authenticity Guarantee, we'd ask you to contest the dispute. If you ended up losing, we would look into options to help appeal. While we work hard to keep these transactions safe, we can never guarantee you would win a payment dispute or appeal.
How do you contest a dispute on a chargeback? If I lose, what options will ebay offer to help appeal? I feel totally unprotected. Am I paranoid? What are the chances ebay will reimburse? thanks

I wouldn't risk, best to sell locally, most likely the price you get will be the same or maybe higher than what you would end up getting from eBay after its fees, so start adding to get an idea
12.55% at least
shipping with signature receipt and insurance for a 4k item
.30 listing fee (this will most likely be your lowest cost)

I've been selling for a long long time on Ebay, over 20 years and perfect feedback. Fortunately I've had very good luck, however, I'm not a big fan of the new "authenticity" program. First off, I don't like my high-end items handled over and over again. What if someone from the Ebay authenticity program mishandles the item or does not re-package it properly? I was told that they take your item, get rid of all your original packing, re-pack it with their boxes, packing, etc...and they also do not guarantee that it will be the same shipping carrier. For example, let's say my customer pays for FedEx shipping. Let's also say they live in the same city as I do, Los Angeles. The package I send goes via Fed Ex (signature confirmation is required, an extra 6.00) to Las Vegas Ebay hub, where they disassemble my package, handle it by some "expert"?? , re-pack it, and possibly ship it USPS ( I was on the phone with Ebay for 7 minutes while they explained that they " may or may not use the same carrier and it 'could' be USPS"). So, not only is there a delay with the item going BACK to L.A to the customer, it's a waste of shipping materials, carbon footprint, etc... While I do like the authentication part of it, it's still no guarantee that the customer won't charge back or return. I've found in the past Paypal to be worse...they actually sided with an unhappy buyer about the fact that the item "didn't fit, too small" after the description specifically stated that it ran small. I did not accept the return and they wanted to refund her what she paid AND KEEP the item!!?? Eventually I fought it and won, but it was such a nightmare. For all these reasons, I'm phasing out Ebay and Paypal and going into business for myself. Good luck with all your sales and purchases, everyone!
