I'm listing some t-shirts, creating a variations listing, but it won't let me use "size" as a variation. I've done it a million times before. Any ideas?

Try saving it as a draft and come back to it. Might just be glitchy.

If you're using sell similar, is the size field already filled out in the item specifics? If it is then you need to blank it out before you can add it as a variation attribute.

I'm having the same problem in swimwear and taking out the size in the item specifics doesn't work neither did saving it as a draft. Does anyone know how to work around this?

That's because you probably have something filled in already in the Item Specifics catergory "Size". If you do that you confuse the system. It behaves the same way when you try to do the same with "Color". Get out of the variations editing page into the general one, make sure Size Item specific is blank. Then go back into variations to add the Size. That should work.

Are you using the relist or sell similar function? If so, try creating the listing from scratch. I.E. I have one listing that behaves all screwy when I relist/sell similar. It's a really old listing that probably has a bunch of garbage code in it... but it has so many variations in it, I'm too lazy to start from scratch and deal with re-adding all the variations.
What you can also try is to temporarily put the listing live without the size variation (or don't even use variations at all). Then go back into it and revise (but rather wipe out all the variations and re-add them back into the listing). Again, make sure the Item Specifics doesn't show the size category.
Bottom line... variation listings functionality stink!! You've just opened the door into a big **bleep** world of multi variations.

I've encountered this off and on so I've been adding 2 variations onto one variation, ie
pink size 6
orange size 8
OR
short sleeve size 6
short sleeve size 8
etc

This will work, but will not be searchable under the ebay search results if the buyer chooses to filter by "size" and "color" variations.
Also you might be required to enter a value for the existing "size" and "color" variations in the item specifics.

Is size type filled out? You need to blank out the size and the size type like Regular or Plus Size. My GF said on her account (she sells clothes), that certain subcategories won't let you use size as a variation without first selecting a size type as a variation.

Did you ever find a solution for this? Having the same problem and none of the tips people listed make a difference.. really want to use this feature.
