I had a bidder place several bids on an item so that they were the highest bidder then send me an email telling me my listing was misleading and "you may have a dispute with me". About a half hour later he sent second email threatening to call a lawyer if I didn't cancel his bid. Of course I did, I want no part of dealing with this person. I also blocked him. He sent me another email, saying I was a scammer and to "clean up my act" and ended the email with "nailed you". All this over an item that he had bid $18 on. I sell vintage items, not expensive electronics or something.
I'm scared of this person. Why are they attacking me? I've heard horror stories of people's ebay business being ruined by a crazy person who caused problems. Is there any way to protect myself from this lunatic besides blocking them? If they change their ID name, is my block worthless?

just ignore them......... DO NOT respond...... the same way you would treat a nut on the street.....walk away. They are looking for confrontation and if you don't give it, they will go someplace else.......

Cancel - block - ignore.

cancel/block and ignore-always the best advice
Despite all our best efforts and working with an occasional crazy person, we still had the occasional person that was over-the-top and hell bent on ruining our week. I can look back at it all now and laugh...mostly. Hopefully you will too. Hang in there. Run things honestly, do your best and things will work out.

MISSA..
Well, yes they COULD change their USER ID---but that is highly unlikely. He seems too disorganized to attempt to do this.
This person is probably just one of those "Sports Bidders" who get on Ebay and place Bids---for thw purpose of to annoying Sellers.
They tire of rhis behavior pretty quickly. Especially if they wind up being ignored.

No. Changing their user ID doesn't make the block worthless. They will still be blocked. Changing a user ID doesn't bypass the block 🙂

But changing their user ID doesn't bypass the block. Thats what OP was asking.

Odds are, they've threatened 6 people today,
A few dozen in the last week.
They'll only notice those who respond,
the OP should totally block and Ignore.. and of course
return here if any other messages are recieved in the future.

changing their ID name will not remove the block. They could open a new account thus bypassing the block.

That would be a violation of eBay policy or at least it used to be. Frankly, it is hard to keep up with the 180's eBay has been doing with their long established policies these days. Actually, it may still be policy but eBay has decided to be lax in its enforcement. It is uncertain times we live in.
The bidder may indeed contact a lawyer and even file suit. Provided on how deep their pockets are and the lawyer's integrity, would determine how far that would get. I wouldn't worry about it.
