Confusion about charity listings and payments

Hello. I would like to list many items with 100% of the proceeds going to charity. However, I do not have a bank account and my Paypal account was unlinked (and I cannot add it again).

Upon investigation, I discovered a charity settings page. Here it says that donations are handled by Paypal and it gives me the option of adding my account.

If I add my Paypal account here, will I be able to list? Even without a bank account/some other main payment option on my account? I am just a bit confused how this works.

@cookie64

You need to sign up for Managed Payments. providing a checking account and the last 4 of your SSN.

Without it, you won't be able to sell here.

Have a great day.

Confusion about charity listings and payments

1.  You have to have a bank account

2.  You will not be able to use Paypal any more

3.  You will be better off, if you just take the items to goodwill, or salvation army

The only way to receive the money for any sale on Ebay is to have a checking account......they will NOT deposit into paypal anymore. As said, without a checking account, you cannot list on Ebay.....

The explanation on the Charity pages, references debiting a paypal account in order to send the money to the charity, but the only way to get money into the paypal account is going to be transferring it from a checking account.  They do mention invoicing if the amount cannot be collected from a paypal account, but then you still need a funding source to pay that invoice.

But the bottom line is the checking account.....

Thinking about this a bit more..........  There are accounts which are in the name of the charity with  a seller acting as their agent.......  That charity would have to supply the checking account/IRS #s/bona-fides etc.....

I have no idea how that is set up..............

You don't give a link to the page you found, but it sounds like it was out of date and not accurate anymore.

When PayPal processed all the payments, there was a (relatively) seamless interaction with the PayPal for Giving fund, that handled charitable donations made through eBay.

However, now all payments are processed through eBay managed Payments, not PayPal, and the situation has changed. Here is the up-to-date eBay help page about selling items for charity (see the link below). There are two possible ways to do this:

  1. Community selling:
    1. Register as a regular seller, with your own checking account, and tax ID number (your SSN).
    2. List items for sale, and donate a percentage to a chosen charity.
    3. Payouts will be sent to your checking account.
    4. 3 weeks after the sale, the PayPal for Giving will collect the donation from you.
    5. You get a discount percentage on the Final Value Fees (only) equal to the donation percentage that was donated. All other fees are not discounted, and are taken from the payouts or charged to your account.
  2. eBay Charity Selling
    1. Register an account that is owned by the charity. You need to provide a bank account that is owned by the charity, and the charity's tax ID number.
    2. All payouts from the sales will be deposited to the charity's bank account.

Yes, I think that's a very useful reference link: (copying it here so the links will all be in one place)

Here are a couple of other good links.

  1. @downunder-61 found the first one:
  2. The T&C for community selling for charity are linked on the previous page:

"If you have not made your donation by the due date, you authorize PayPal Giving Fund to collect the donation automatically using your donation payment method on file with eBay. If your donation cannot be collected automatically (for example, if you are a managed payments seller) you will receive an invoice payable to PayPal Giving Fund requesting payment for the donations due."
