Confusing final selling fee

I have always thought the basic fee was 10%. After this new account change I noticed it is much higher than that, around 15%. Has it went up? Thank you

Yes it was announced a while ago. There are now different rates depending on certain category's.

Selling Fees are based on (purchase price + shipping costs + sales tax) plus 30 cents per transaction.

Re: Confusing final selling fee

Ebays fvf was 10 % and PayPal charged 2.9% for domestic  (4.4% for international) + .30.  So a domestic transaction was 12.9% + .30

Managed Payments charges 12.35% + .30.  If the buyer paid from a non US PayPal or bank account there is an extra 1.65% charge

Re: Confusing final selling fee

I must say I am impressed by your sales.  Almost every item you have up has multiple bids!  Very nice.

Yep, fees were never a total of 10%.  That has been an urban legend for 20 years.

Re: Confusing final selling fee

I recently noticed that the amount being deducted from my sales also seems excessive. According to ebay's fee schedule I should expect 10% final value fee which will include any shipping in the calculation. I don't incur any listing fees so that isn't a factor.  But nearly all of my sales both large and small are averaging 14%. A reply here says there is a 30 cent per transaction charge on top of the 10%, but I didn't see that on the fee schedule, and that amount wouldn't bump a percentage much on the sale of an expensive item.  Tried to contact eBay for 3 days this week via phone call back and the system says not available.

You are using Managed Payments, the fees are different because you no longer pay fees to PayPal.

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees-managed-payments-sellers?id=482...

Old under PayPal

10% eBay + 2.9 + 30 cents PayPal

New under Managed Payments

12.35% of 30 cents to eBay, ZERO to PayPal

eBay fees can be affected by price, category, buyer location, seller status, store subscription level, seller metrics, sales tax amount, whether you are in maanged payments, etc. etc. etc.

You will need to give is a specific example of the category, item price, shipping cost charged, sales tax collected, item category, whether you have a store, what your seller rating is, whether your buyer's registered address is outside the USA for us to even have a chance at showing you the calculation.

Re: Confusing final selling fee

Yes, all of those are factors in setting the fees.  But it's easy enough to look at the OP's listings to verify that when he referred to "this new account change" he apparently meant the changeover to Managed Payments, where the FVF would go up to 12.35% (in most categories ) plus 30 cents.

Another option of course would be for all these OPs to go to the fee page, read how fees work, and verify the calculations themselves 🙂

By asking the questions I do, I am subtly trying to coax these sellers into teaching themselves how to fish.

Re: Confusing final selling fee

Hmmm. I just made my first sale under the new system. Shipped item to Texas, but noticed the buyer may be in Mexico.

I don't sell often on ebay, however, it appears ebay took over 15%.

Item (computer parts) amt was $278.98, net to me was $235 and change. I never knew they  took a percentage of the sales tax, either.. and don't know what sales tax % they charged my Texas based selle wr.

Based on your message, the fee might have been around 14%. But I was charged well over 15% on the 278.... I always thought ebay handled all of the sales tax.

Good thing I listed the item high enough.

Re: Confusing final selling fee

Maybe ebay taking a % of the sales tax is how, along with the 14% total, is how i ended up with only $235. ...oh well. At least I got a good price for the hard drives. which I'd bought on ebay for a fair bit less, but then decided I didn't need them. The extra covered part of my original 10% Wa State sales tax...

Sales tax is a factor. In texas the state rate is 6.25% and it can go up over 8% depending on the city. eBay collects and remits the tax, but you still have to pay fees on the total amount the buyer paid, including tax.

Does your orders page show a note that says International Sale? If it does then you were also assessed an international fee because the buyer used an international funding source. You can find the breakdown on the payment transaction page.
