Hey everyone!
I am an avid shopper here but have not sold any items in a few years. I posted 4 listings with 3 of them selling. Can someone explain why the ratio is what it is on 3 lots of Homies toy figurines.
$44.82
$39.45
$30.24
total = $114.51
funds on hold = $90.33
This means that eBay is keeping $24.18 which exceeds 20% of the final value (price, shipping and taxes) and will not release funds until September 10th at the earliest. These sales are U.S. only so VAT does not apply.
Why am I being charged so far beyond the 12.9% plus .30 per listing?
Again, I am an avid shopper that pays within 24 hours (usually less) and had no discrepancies as a seller in prior years.
I no longer wish to honor these sales and would also like to know if eBay will charge me utilizing any of the methods of payment that are on file?
I am aware that the marketplace has skewed to the “buyer is always right, buyer always wins” mentality and was hesitant to list at all.
The 4th item automatically relisted and states that I might be penalized if I end the listing.
I thought that I had done my due diligence in looking at the fees but obviously I was wrong.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Susan

Fees are not charged on the item price.
Fees are charged on the total amount the buyer pays - item cost, shipping cost plus sales tax if any. Fees for the toys and hobbies category are 12.9% plus 30 cents. Add together the item prices, the shipping costs and the tax paid for those sales and the fee percentage should equal the same.
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/frais-pour-les-vendeurs-particuliers?id=4822
"We charge one final value fee when your item sells, and you don't have to worry about third-party payment processing fees. This fee is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus $0.30 per order.
The total amount of the sale includes the item price, any handling charges, the shipping service the buyer selects, sales tax, and any other applicable fees. If you offer 1-day or international shipping as well as a cheaper or free option (like domestic shipping), the total amount of the sale is calculated based on the cheapest domestic option you offer. If you only offer 1-day or international shipping but no cheaper option like domestic shipping, the total amount of the sale is calculated based on the service the buyer chooses."
If you use upgrades such as reserves, bold titles, etc. those incur listing fees which are charged when you list, not when you sell, and are non-refundable.

Your transaction detail will tell you exactly what fees you were charged and how they were calculated. We would need all that information to answer your question, and by gathering that information for us you will have answered it for yourself.

That is not how eBay works and not what you agreed to.
If you cancel I think you would need to use "out of stock" as the reason, which will damage your account (3 will put you below standard) and I think you will still be required to pay the fees. And yes, eBay will collect them from you using whatever means they have at their disposal.

Thank you for responding!
The amounts listed are the totals including shipping and taxes…exactly why I’m confused by the 20+% ratio.

That's the whole point -- the three totals that are in the original post do not match the selling prices of the OP's three Sold items; so they include at least the shipping cost and probably also the sales tax.

Yes, these are the total amounts including the taxes and shipping. These amounts are from my “selling” tab.
There is something that I read about charging me more until I am re-established as a seller…could that actually be true?

I have never heard about that.
But again, IMHO looking at your funds on hold total and guessing what eBay is charging you is not the best way to figure out what eBay is charging you.
IMHO best way to figure out what eBay is charging you is to look at your transaction details and verify what eBay is charging you.

Did you buy shipping on eBay, or buy at the Post Office?
If you bought shipping on eBay, the shipping charges would be deducted from the $114.51.

I haven’t shipped but would be paying for that at the post office and had intended to upgrade the shipping as I had done in the past.

Postage will cost less if you purchase it through eBay rather than at the Post Office.

You have to deduct the price of shipping if you bought the labels from ebay.

I imagine that you’re right but I already have priority mail packaging and wanted to operate the same as I had before by upgrading (at my cost).
I’m still confused by the amount that eBay is keeping in terms of 20+%. I have been through my account and cannot find any explanation for it exceeding the 12.9% plus listing fee.
I already felt bad for the sellers here and have refused to complain when something isn’t quite right or to leave negative feedback but I’m even more solid in that mindset now.

eBay isn't taking 20%. The transaction totals include sales tax.
Just rough numbers, using an expected 8% sales tax, the "on hold" looks right, and hits that 12.9% + $0.30/transaction fee.
$ 114.51 | Transaction Total |
$ 106.03 | Item Price + Shipping |
$ 8.48 | 8% Sales Tax |
$ 15.67 | 12.9% + $0.30x3 |
$ 90.36 | Amount due to seller |

The calculations are perfectly correct...
Your 3 sales total 114.50 (includes collected sales tax)
The FVF (Final Value Fee) is .129 (-14.77)
Transaction Fee (.30 X 3)-0.90
Sales tax collected and remitted (-8.51)
Total Remaining Funds (90.33)
Ebay is "keeping" $15.67 (not $24.18)
what is "grift"? Is that like a 'vig'?

Lol! Grift is a con…a grifter is a con artist…is that what a “vig” is? Lol…I have never felt so dumb
