I have a new in package vintage ironing board cover. It's sealed, but the plastic packaging is pretty beat up, and there's a tear in the package. Category is ironing board covers and accessories. Conditions in the dropdown are new, open box, manufacturer refurbished, seller refurbished, used and for parts/not working.
So...is it NEW, since it's unopened and still sealed in the package? Or is it USED, because even though it's unopened, the package is so beat up?
This is why we need a new old stock designation - for stuff like this.

Hopefully you got it ironed out and the sale will proceed without any wrinkles.

One of these days I’m going to march up to some gal and say, “They make strapless bras, have you heard? It’s called UNDERwear for a reason!”
I'm not too sure I would even want to be seen speaking to one dressed like that. I might get a reputation! ![]()
I mean, besides slapped and a sexual harassment charge. ![]()

I'm currently on a timeout on a private Facebook travel board for saying I could not even look a concierge in the face because of the dime sized daylight-showing-through holes in his ear lobes. Learned two things -- the holes are called gauges, and keep my little old lady non-PC musings to myself.

Wow, I’m wearing a t back tank right now and my straps are showing. Sometimes I even coordinate my bra color with my tank. It’s not like I’m showing my boobs or buttcrack. All my lady parts are covered by multiple layers. Women should not be ashamed that people can see their bra straps, it’s clothing.
wearing a strapless bra with a casual tank would be ridiculous imho. Especially since my tank features Rose the Riveter today. People are lucky I’m wearing a bra at all. Men don’t have to.

Humm! I thought women burned their bras way back in the 60's! ![]()
Seriously, my wife has always told me that the reason she pays what she does for her bras are that they must be perfectly fitted to be comfortable. Sounds right to me but she still insists on removing it at home to be more comfortable. ![]()
I remember seeing ads on TV about a device that could be used to insure that bra straps didn't stick out when women wore tank tops or sleeveless tops and dresses. I'm not sure that they caught on though. Of course, sports bras are also an option I believe, but I'm not sure how comfortable they are for every woman. Interesting dilemma!

I think back in the day women wore ugly industrial plates type bras. Not like the colorful pretty bras of today. I don’t understand how being able to see straps is any different than layering two tanks with different straps.
I wouldn’t do it if I was going to a formal event but life is not strapped down and uncomfortable like it used to be. Of course back then people drank and smoked more so maybe they cared less about comfort.

The fundamental issue here is not what is "correct", but rather what is the prudent thing to do to avoid a disappointed customer.
I suspect that most people consider "new" to mean "just like I would get from the store". Clearly a buyer with that expectation would be disappointed by a package that is beat up and torn. And since your item is not refubished by you or the manufacturer, that leaves "used" as the obviously choice. Underdescribe and over-deliver.
When I have items in that state, I list them as "Used" and put a note in the saying that the item is new but the packaging is damaged.

OMG - I would kill or donate a kidney for the ironing cover. I only use my wooden ironing board and it is so hard to find covers for it. Now, I will be stalking you @southern*sweet*tea 🙂

Underwear goes UNDER. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
And while I’m at it.....
Rhinestones on your hiney don’t make your sweatpants formal wear, either.

They make racer back and cross strap bras, too. Just sayin’..... 🤪🤪🤪

Same here. My husband got it from his mom who got it from her mom - is from the late 40s/early 50s. It's ancient and impossible to find a cover for.
I tried to impress him by making one. That didn't go well.
I can't even get it to stand properly - it's like those wood deck chairs that they used to have slapstick comedy skits with. I have given up, refuse to even try now, and claim that my left-handedness is the problem, and husband puts it together in 3 seconds and tries not to look smug.

Yeah mine coverts to a cross back but the straps aren’t long enough because they’re made for midgets.
Im not going to be uncomfortable just because some fuddy duddy is shocked by a piece of fabric

I will do just about anything to avoid my undergarments showing, even THROUGH my clothes.
Different generation, maybe? I dunno.
I stood in line this afternoon behind a woman in a racerback black tank with a white bra underneath. She was all tattoos, bra straps, and collarbones and shoulderblades. She had white shorts on with blue thong panties underneath.
I didn't consider it a layered, lagenlook kind of thing. I just figured she didn't care that she looked like she got dressed in the dark in a stranger's house and fumbled through the drawers to pull on whatever came to hand.
As Elliott Gould said in The Long Goodbye - It's ok with me.
But I wouldn't do it unless I was in some kind of a disaster or something like a fire or tornado etc.

I don't think it's about shock.
