Complex templates in the item description

I'm a seller on Ebay, but I also buy a lot.  So I see a lot of other store's listings.

I noticed a lot of stores use templates in their item descriptions.  It's almost like they have a mini website with menus, pictures, tables, and more embedded into the item description.

I am not referring to a listing template which I see does exist.  This must be a "Description Template."

Are these people hacking out the HTML themselves and inserting it into the listing?  Or is there a more visual tool out there somewhere they are using?   Does Ebay provide like a templating tool or something like that they are using?

Re: Complex templates in the item description

Some people code their own, some people pay somebody to code for them, some people use third-party suppliers of pre-made templates and some people just "borrow" code they find online (like other eBay sellers listings).

Re: Complex templates in the item description

You can create code with an online HTML editor and then copy and paste the code into your listing description. quackit is a pretty good one with tutorials and it is free.

Templates are easy to code - no 'hacking' involved lol. They just get dropped into the listing. I used to use a range which I created myself, but I quit using them and actually find 90% of the templates others use annoying. It takes a certain ability to create a good template without there just being a lot of irrelevant clutter, but this ability doesn't seem very common.

Re: Complex templates in the item description

Funny thanks.  hacking is my word for coding since noone codes anymore today.  It's all drag/drop, select from a menu, etc.  I actually recently created a shopify page and realised where was 0 coding involved.

I believe that's just 'creating' - hacking involves unauthorized access, exploiting code or making your very own kludge.

Sure people code - where do you think all of those tools for creating that Shopify page came from? People who don't like the available tools create their own.

But yes, there are a lot of pre-made tools you can use if you want to create a distinctive appearance to your listings. But it's best to keep it simple.

Re: Complex templates in the item description

I am wondering about this too.  I do have an HTML template that I use, but now I am seeing that all the images that I hotlinked into the listing from my own website are not appearing. I am trying to figure out how to fix this if anyone has any advice.
