Completely Scammed - Please help

Hi everyone,

I sold my laptop for parts  on December 26. I sold it for $200 and it cost me $40 to ship it out. Didn't expect to make much and it cost me. I input the tracking info for USPS and on Jan 12 they still hadn't received it and requested a refund, which they got quickly. I updated the tracking info once I saw it was wrong and it says it was delivered. Now he got the refund and the laptop and I'm out $40 (plus Ebay's fees). I tried for an appeal and it was instantly denied. Is there anything I can do???

I called support and they just send another appeal and don't help me at all. Feel so helpless here.

Looked up the company I mailed it to and it's all in Russian...

Who cares if they are Russian, American, etc... as long as the money is green 🙂

I don’t understand it wasn’t delivered, which you obviously checked via it’s tracking then you “updated its tracking once you saw it was wrong”? And now it’s delivered?

Explain please.   Did you put the wrong tracking on an item marking it shipped and think it was not delivered though it was, then the buyer opened a claim and you refunded?

Also, why was it $40 to ship a laptop?   Does it not fit in a Priority mail  ox about the size of a laptop bag?   If yes, there are weighted ones that can go via next whole pound Priority rounded up, and those can also go Cubic priority based on the cubic feet printed on the box...   Then there are Region Rate boxes like Region A, and then there are flat rate such as Medium Flat Rate.   I would think you would be looking at maybe $15 at the most if shipped domestically and economically...

As for your eNay fees, if you gave a full refund because a case was opened, you should get thst back unless eBay had to step in.

What happened?

This has happened to me.  I clearly told the buyer that the USPS is behind.  It didn't matter, ebay stepped in and refunded their money.  Looks like I'm going to call ebay support again for the fourth time.

Unfortunately, you are "out of luck"....many, many vendors lost money this year due to delayed shipments.   The only way you could get your money would be to send buyer PayPal invoice and hope that they are honest.

That company is a forwarding service. Looks like they have an office in the Ukraine. (I used Google Translate on that page to see what it was.) If one can prove an item was forwarded, then the Money Back Guarantee is voided.* The seller's responsibility is to get it to the address of record. Once the package is sent to a forwarded address, the buyer is ineligible to open an Item Not Received case or Not As Described case. Did the buyer's address have a reference number in it somewhere?

But it sounds like you may have input the wrong tracking number and it came back to burn you. What did you mean by "I updated the tracking info once I saw it was wrong"?

You only have one shot at an appeal and in it you would have had to present your evidence of the forwarding, and show the corrected tracking number proving delivery. It is helpful to take some time with the appeal as you have 30 days in which to file one. I'm sorry that you didn't come here first to get some help with it. It may not have made a difference, but at least it would have maximized your potential.

When eBay steps in to refund, several penalties are laid on the seller. Their account receives a defect which can downgrade their standing on eBay, the Final Value fees are not credited back and therefore must be paid, and often the buyer is not required to return the item. It is usually in the seller's interests to cut their losses and refund willingly (after the item is returned), then prepare a careful appeal to overturn the ruling, if possible. Losing MBG cases are one of the risks in selling on eBay.

*See the following link to the Money Back Guarantee policy which states, "Not Covered: The item was sent to another address after the original delivery, or buyer uses a freight forwarder..."
