Why is eBay now putting one to three rows (of 12 items each) in the middle of my listings--between the Gallery photo and the Items Specific?
This would seem to lure away my Buyers, and to confuse them.
I paid for the listing. Why the clutter?
(They are also putting at least two rows at the bottom of the listing. When they first started this, the listings were only at the bottom, and they were all YOUR listings.)

Yep, with ebay you're literally paying for a store that doesn't even represent the products you sell, rather your competitors. Now when you click on a listing, you have to scroll past a million ads to even read the description.
ebay does this to force sellers to eat each other alive on prices. They always dump other sellers identical products in your listings.
Its a race to the bottom and everyone loses. Its also a confusing mess for buyers, there's just no point of focus, a bunch of garbage splattered all over the screen like paint.

Because those sellers pay more for it. Pay to play as they say.

Get competitive with them on your price. If they are paying a heap for that advertising their price is probably much higher than yours.

You either have to pay to play with a higher price or price your items so that pay to play people lose the sale.

Maybe I misread it, but it appeared that they pay NOTHING unless their item sells.

This is not about competitive pricing. A child can run an Advanced Search to see how your price compares to Active and Sold listings.
This is about eBay selling you a listing, then selling space IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR LISTING, which disrupts your presentation.
The parasite listings also gain access to YOUR list of followers, which you have earned over years of listing on eBay.

You don't pay anything unless your item sells either.

Since you don't even have "access" to YOUR list of followers, this is a truly puzzling leap of logic.

Because they can. It's as simple as that. You sell on their site and they make the rules.

"I paid for the listing. Why the clutter?"
As eBay has waned in popularity this is their answer to maintain profitability.

The people who run eBay are not Henry Ford, they are more like Bernie Madoff with your money.

I didn't know eBay was an investment broker running a ponzi scheme with my money. Wait, what?

Sellers pays something one way or another to list. A monthly store fee or per listing fee with no store.
I don't your stuff popping up on my listings just as you don't want mine popping up on yours. That is what the 'sort' options are for.
Maybe there are special categories out there? I can't keep up with all crazy scenarios that eBay keeps coming up with on fees.

I've never paid a dime for a monthly store fee or to list anything on here, so yeah.

You are incorrect. I pay a monthly Anchor Store subscription fee, which gives me a number of "free" Fixed Price listings. I also pay a listing fee for every Auction in excess of 1,000 per month.
I do not pay a FVF until the item sells.
