Colored text on listings.

Has anyone noticed when you try to enter colored text on a listing the available colors are now different? The They are not the usual "normal" colors i'm used to seeing.  Different than the colors available here on the boards.  Anyone else experiencing this?  Anyone know why?

Colored text on listings.

Listing colors were revised many months back.

Subdued colors.....  less offensive to the viewer?

I just copy & past the brighter colors when I want to use them to draw the viewers attention to what I am trying to highlight.

Text size choices have also been reduced. Some smaller gone. Some larger gone. I copy & paste those as well when needed.

Usually the only time I want to color my text  is to make the text BRIGHT RED to stand out and  draw attention to it.  Oh well, so much for that.

All this time I never knew I was "offending" anyone.    😉

Some very light colors gone.  I would use the very small text with the very light color to have something in the listing so that it would search, but not draw attention.

I do many "sell similar", so I often have the bright colors still there.

If not there, I can go to another listing, and snatch those big bright colors.

I do suspect that you could "copy & past" those colors from most anywhere.

Those bright colors may be perceived by some as like TYPING IN CAPS  🙂

Perhaps bright colors are more offensive on little phone screens. You know everyone now uses a cell phone for everything, including verifying their eBay account 🤣

Greetings...

Yes, I noticed it, too. Quite frustrating when I want to use a simple red or blue color.

The way I get around it when making a new listing, is choose any of the ridiculously dark "new chart" colors I don't want and place it where I want to change the text color, pull up a previously listed or sold item that had the color I want, drilled down into that description's HTML and copied the coding for the color I really wanted, drilled down to the HTML of the new listing's description, and pasted the color code in place of the "new chart" placeholder color code that I didn't want. It now takes me less than 30 seconds or so to do the change to the color I want that isn't on eBay's ill-advised "new chart".

I sure wish eBay gave us the choice of which chart to use... I don't see a choice.

Cheers, Duffy

Thank you for that tip!

@inhawaii

I noticed it yesterday when I was listing.  The old swatches were like here on the boards, & were more colors of the spectrum.  The new ones are cross color swatches.  Not sure why this was implemented.  Good ol' black font works fine for me.  Keeping it simple.

Happy Aloha Friday.

That bright red really offends bulls.

I always just use HTML for color and text size and style changes. They haven't deviated in my listings yet.

Actually, bulls are color blond.

BUT I always use the HTML color coding

You can do a lot with just some very basic HTML skills.

In my opinion this was the one and only good change that came from the Unified Listing Tool. And they did leave the bright blue which stands out but is less offensive than the bright red. Either way, if you can work the HTML you can use any color you like - from the palette or not.

Do you guys remember that post last fall when some dude claimed the new muted color palette meant eBay was in a gang or promoting gangs or something like that? I can't remember. It was pretty funny.

When you go to bring up the options this comes up....

"We recommend sticking with black 14pt font."

I think eBay knows which listings are looked at and those that are a turn off.
