Colored text on listings.

Has anyone noticed when you try to enter colored text on a listing the available colors are now different? The They are not the usual "normal" colors i'm used to seeing.  Different than the colors available here on the boards.  Anyone else experiencing this?  Anyone know why?

You mean the ones that look like unicorn vomit?

Re: Colored text on listings.

I just noticed this when I tried to find real red.

Fortunately, I still have my bright red in my listings from using sell similar...

White is gone too. I once knew someone who used thousands of white on white keywords in his listings to improve search results.

@inhawaii

For me personally I've always steered away from using Red as many people find it offensive.  Especially older folks.  I do use some colors in my listings in my TOS.  I think the green shows up nicely and the purple.  But just my personal opinion.

You should stick to black text and regular, italicize, underlined and bold due to people suffering various forms of color blindness.

Black on white also offers the highest contrast and is easier to read.

How many books and newspapers use color for the main text of the story?

Re: Colored text on listings.

Welcome to the wonderful world of woke.... eBay has stated that the new colors are approved colors for the color sight challenged. Meaning people who are color blind and also have trouble with contrast. While it is a nice thought to make the platform easier to use for everyone, it's seems ridiculous to make it worse for 99.99% of users to satisfy the 0.01% that may or may not even use eBay.

Btw- who is offended by a color? That's in itself is kinda silly isn't it?

The point of colors are to grab attention to highlight parts of a listing... If eBay didn't want to let sellers highlight defects and have quality listings just get rid of colors all together, but why make such a lousey color gamout that is harder to see for non sight challenged people?

All it did is annoy and alienate the very people that bring the goods and sales to this platform.

<font color="#FF0000">Text Here (the color code is Red)</font>

Re: Colored text on listings.

OMG this has nothing to do with "woke".  Another over used word and often used when it simply doesn't apply.

Lots of people, maybe not you, but for many certain colors do cause an issue for them.  For me personally bright yellow highlighter type color makes my head hurt if I have to view it too much whether on a computer or on paperwork.

While for you it may not present a problem that doesn't mean that for others that it does present a problem to it isn't important or relevant.

I've been a seller for many years and on these threads for many years.  Whenever the subject has come up I have always advised sellers to avoid bright colors of any kind as they are hard for some to read.  Sticking with the more muted colors still allows things to stand out without bothering the minority of people that would have an issue.

It is only a big deal if you choose to make it one.

Re: Colored text on listings.

For me, I can barely see the word "color" due to the shade of green it is.

Re: Colored text on listings.

What is the world coming to when a COLOR may offend someone?     😉

Re: Colored text on listings.

This isn't a new thing.  While the word "offend" may not be the best word to describe it, certain colors can and will bother certain people for different reasons.  I see this a some making way to big of a deal about this.

Use the colors you want to in your listings.  You don't like the colors that Ebay offers, figure out a different way to get your colors into your listings.  Maybe description in MS Word and then copy and paste it into the listing.

sorry, that is the insert feature here, it turns particular words to certain color when use it, instead of just showing the code in black text.

Re: Colored text on listings.

I have my computer set to dark theme and all of those colors are hard to see in @nuclearomen post.  I wear a heavy prescription pair of glasses with bifocal, so some colors are hard for me to see as well.

Re: Colored text on listings.

That is a really good point.  That was one of the two reasons that I stopped using the dark mode.  The other was you couldn't distinguish where an inserted pic started or ended easily.
