Categories not showing on listings

Anyone have any suggestions as to why the categories an item is listed in is not showing when I view an item. Sometimes I look at how others have an item listed to help me with how to list mine. This just recently disappeared. Thanks.

Re: Categories not showing on listings

As a buyer, I find it useful to discover categories that I might not have considered to look in for what I am looking for.

How does that play into it now being at the very bottom of a listing?

Yeah, it's possible to reach the bottom of the listing, but it's a huge pain.

@taystea

With the "new and improved!" system of putting the category path at the bottom of the page, I think the fastest way to figure out the category of your own or someone else's listing is to hit the "Sell Similar" link.

Yes, thank you. I have started doing that. Also, if you hit the end key when using a laptop you can get down there fairly quickly to see what the categories are.

Yes, its at the bottom, but as soon as I get there another page of junk/garbage paid promotional listings pop up and the bottom is pushed out of site. Its like teasing the rabbit with the carrot on a stick where when the rabbit gets close the stick is pulled up just out of reach. I just spent five minutes trying to scroll to the bottom of the page and it was never ending so I gave up trying to scroll to the bottom as I have better things to do. I also will avoid ALL PAID PROMOTED LISTINGS!

The greed of  Harvard and Yale's finest educated folks who take over these companies as they mature en**bleep**tifies what was once useful as the idiots do their power point presentations that say if I do "X" we make more money, never mind that the customer does "Y" as a result and bails to Facebook Marketplace.

There should be a law that prevents Ivy League educated idiots from buying and taking over any American Company (except maybe the portable latrine companies as we can en**bleep**tifie back at them) as they always trash and destroy them with their get more the money first mentallity, when the creators of these companies said to themselves what do people want that they are willing to pay for.

Re: Categories not showing on listings

It eventually stops.  Dropping quickly to the bottom doesn't work.  You need to go slow and steady, then the ads will eventually stop in a few seconds.

We live in a capitalist society.  IDK why people use the word Greed when people and corporations are just doing what they are suppose to do, try to make money.

You may consider doing a little more research into these Ivy League schools.  While certainly they have a lot of money, especially Harvard, they also spend BILLIONs each year funding research the rest of the world need.  To name a few, Cancer, Heart Disease, infectious diseases and much more.

With Billions being taken out of the overall federal Budget for many of these research facilities / programs around the USA, what do you think is going to happen?

Re: Categories not showing on listings

If they were looking for a way to make it harder for buyers to search for items by category--MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! I use multiple search approaches when I have time, but my core approach most of the time is to use the breadcrumbed categories at the top of the page to search by category from items in my standard watch list.

I have bought a lot less in the past month since this function disappeared. I assumed it was just a short-term error, but since it never went away I decided to check here.

Having tried this now a few times, it's really time consuming and annoying to scroll down like that every time. I guess they've found a way to help me be more disciplined to BUY LESS.

@poptoys

The position of the Category on the actual listing would have no affect at all on a buyer or anyone to be able to search by category.  I'm not sure what makes you think it would.  The category is still part of the listing.  Unfortunately Ebay has decided it is better at the bottom of the listing than the top.  I don't understand that thinking, but still it shouldn't have any affect on searches.

I'm not sure why you are having difficulty.  Maybe a misunderstanding??

Anyone can search in a specific category.  To the right of the Search field you can specifically select a category if you want and search it.

Re: Categories not showing on listings

I understand how eBay works. I can still work my way through the category hierarchy through search. But it's multiple extra steps for each of 6-10 different searches, which I used to do multiple times a day, quickly checking in between other tasks. To clarify, I'm not searching *within* category by keyword. I'm browsing *everything* within certain categories because I find many items are missed in a keyword search.

In the grand scheme of things, this is minor. But they've made a change that for me requires enough extra steps that I don't bother with it. Maybe eBay analytics show their new approach actually does generates more sales, in which case I'm ultimately fine with it.

My core concern is that millions of users like me have been conditioned to search in a particular way over many years. Not everyone searches eBay like I do, and I may be in a significant minority, but I'm offering the perspective that this change has slowed the eBay searches for at least one buyer and that has resulted in my buying less.

Which maybe I should be buying less anyway. 🙂
