I have been a member since 2001 and have always made sure to never have negative feedback by following the rules and selling as described items. I take pride in it.
I will try to make this concise as possible.
An item I listed sold, and was paid for. I went to print a shipping label though Ebay and it wouldn't allow me because there was a red lettering stating that the address was incorrect or wrong, I don't remember exactly. Not long after I received a message from the buyer with a similar address but the address was combined on one line rather than separated as it was before. I thought maybe the buyer was aware of this issue from a past transaction and is trying to help me out . I edited the address to reflect the change but it still wouldn't let me print the address and that is when I got suspicious so I googled the address and found out they are EBay scammers resellers that ship overseas from Delaware and have had many people duped by that address.
I went ahead and cancelled the order though the EBay system as it gave me a list of reason one of them being that the address is not correct. I also assumed that EBay was aware of this happening to others and made the process easy to cancel orders that don't have legitimate addresses. I was wrong.
The buyer left me with negative feedback and when I called EBay and explained they said it has to stand. I then asked them how can I send send the package when their own system will not allow me to print a shipping label so im assured I have EBay protections as I do not want to go outside of the EBay system to send it.
The kind lady on the phone had no answer and just heard my logical grievances until I was done talking.
I remember when it much harder to get verified to be a EBay member but lately there are so many scam accounts over bidding on my items and becoming deadbeats. After re listing my goods once more I get low ball offers though the messaging system which I believe is an attempt to wear me down and sell low. EBay is allowing this kind of atmosphere by allowing anyone to join and create a terrible experience for legitimate sellers and buyers that just want to do transactions without these pesky scamers ruining otherwise good sales between parties. I wish they would verify an address before you can place a bid on an item and you should not be penalized if the address is not legitimate by their own system.
The reason why people bid more on my items is mainly because I have maintained a blemish free record but now thats ruined by no fault of my own.

Feedback isn't a big of a deal as in the past. While it's always upsetting to receive undeserved bad feedback it's not going to ruin your selling account. You can post a professionally worded response: Buyer's address was incorrect, eBay would not print the label. Unable to ship.

Thanks for the replys. I went ahead and responded to the neg feedback. Its a shame really because it broke my heart to have this blemish but I suppose it would have to happen eventually.
As far as calling them back I think it's pointless at this point because I explained my case the best way I could. At one point my logic made sense so they put me on hold multiple times coming back in between to ask me to hold again as they are still working it out. About fifteen minutes later I get a wooden response that just allowed me to say whatever on the line and then I realised they are just running out the clock.
If I keep calling and expecting a different result it would be insanity.
When I Googled the buyer several people had the same complaint I had with the buyer sending a different address with the line changed. If avoiding a bad situation costs me a negative feedback I will take that any day over getting scamed. What I will change is having my auctions as buy it now from now on so the check out is completed.

I edited the address to reflect the change but it still wouldn't let me print the address and that is when I got suspicious so I googled the address and found out they are EBay scammers resellers that ship overseas from Delaware and have had many people duped by that address.
I'm honestly not sure what all that means. To me it doesn't make sense.
If the address is a bad address, then how could these people be receiving stuff at that address?
What on the internet tells you they are "scamming many people"?
Being a "reseller" does not make someone bad or a scammer!
If you ship to an address, as the seller that is where your responsibility ends. Once the buyer has the item, they are free to do with it whatever they wish. I'm not sure why you feel you have or should have some control over that. They can ship it where ever they want to, why does that matter to you? Heck they can donate if they want, resell it, give it as a gift or ship it around the world, not of which should affect you.
I went ahead and cancelled the order though the EBay system as it gave me a list of reason one of them being that the address is not correct. I also assumed that EBay was aware of this happening to others and made the process easy to cancel orders that don't have legitimate addresses. I was wrong.
Those weren't special reasons just for you. What you saw was the reasons Ebay allows for ALL sellers if they are in need of filing a cancellation. They are not specific to you. Ebay has never done that.
Don't make this a personal transaction. Remove your feelings from the equation. These transactions are Business transactions. You actually did yourself more harm with how you responded to the buyer's FB than the buyer did with the comment they left for you. When a seller finds the need to respond to FB, they should ALWAYS, without exception respond in a polite, professional and factual manner. To do otherwise only makes you look unprofessional in the eyes of other potential customers.
I know you have called Ebay already to have this FB removed, but you really should try again. It is unfortunate, but far too many times it takes multiple calls to get a matter resolved. It is all about the CSR you get and how well trained they are.
When you call, ask for a Feedback Specialist. The first person will still have you explain before transfering you, but just give them a brief overview, that is all they need. The longer details you can share with the actual FB specialist they should be transfering you to.
It is of the utmost importance that when talking with a CSR that you treat them with respect. You want them to WANT to work for you. So don't vent or otherwise annoy them or be rude to them. To do so is only going to cause you to defeat yourself. Be professional and factual. Keep your personal feelings and opinions out of the conversation. They don't matter to anyone but YOU and you are not the one that can fix this problem, so impressing yourself will do you no good.
Make an outline on paper if you need to. Nothing wrong with following a script with the facts listed. If it help you, use notes. I sometimes do this especially in complicated issues or ones that there are some facts I don't want to forget to state. Talk to the CSR about the emails between you and the buyer so that they can review those too.
BTW, it wasn't Ebay's system that didn't like the address. It was Ebay's system that notified you, but it would have been the USPS sytem that didn't like the address which caused Ebay to notify you.
In an effort to help you with your next phone call you may consider discussing with the CSR the following policies a published on Ebay in support of having the FB removed.
Automatically removed
We automatically remove defects, adjust your late shipment rate, and remove feedback when:
- The buyer didn't pay for a purchase and an unpaid item case is recorded against the buyer
- The defect, feedback, or late shipment was the direct result of an eBay site issue or program error
- The delivery estimate shown in the listing was shortened, but tracking shows the item was delivered by the carrier's longest delivery estimate
- We take action against a buyer for violating the Buying practices policy
- We take action to close an eBay Money Back Guarantee case or appeal request in favor of the seller
- We instruct you to hold a shipment or take action to cancel the transaction
- We can determine through valid tracking that the defect, feedback, or late shipment was the direct result of systemic delays in shipping or communication. Examples include wide-scale shipping carrier delays, items stuck in customs, or power outages due to extreme weather. Actual qualifying events are listed on our announcement board
Buyer-requested cancellations
If a buyer has contacted you and asked you to cancel the order, they’ll need to file a cancellation request with you.
Once you receive their request, you’ll have 3 days to approve or decline it. If you approve it and the buyer has already paid for the item, you have 10 days to issue them a refund. If you haven’t refunded them within 10 days, they can file a claim through the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
When a buyer cancels a transaction, they can't leave negative or neutral feedback or low detailed seller ratings for you.

Call again, speak with a feedback specialist, request that feedback be removed.

I don't know that to be true. The policy does not say that it only applies to buyers that send the formal cancellation request. Besides a buyer can ONLY do that within the first hour AFTER the purchase. Beyond that, it is emails only. Is this something you have first hand knowledge of? I'm curious, I'm not trying to be rude in any way.

A buyer can send a cancellation request at any time. They get automatic cancellation if it's within 1 hour. After that they seller has to agree to a cancellation. Also, how did the buyer cancel anything here? The seller cancelled, so the buyer can leave feedback.

Thanks for the responses. I will take my lumps but I want to address a few things that could have had me not go down this path.
I just want to make a simple transaction between the buyer and I without any completions. You pay for the item, I print a shipping label and send off the package. It should be that simple but in this case it wasn't.
1. There was something wrong with the shipping address that did not allow me to print a shipping label though Ebay. This was the first red flag. If the address is legit and tied to the account then EBay should let me print. EBay probably had a good reason.
2. The buyer sent me the same address right after the sale was made without me requesting to do so with a combined line of the address. Why should the buyer do this if the address is already on file with EBay. Second red flag and editing the address still would not allow me to print.
3. Looked up the address on Google and it was lit up with all kinds of warnings for fraud. It turns out that there are Russians that have US EBay accounts that bid on items and have them sent to this re shipper in Delaware. I specifically only want to my items to be sold domestic US to persons who reside in the US and I have set up my EBay account to reflect that. Why because I may sell a gun part like a Scope which is forbidden to ship to another country and although I may not have any liability I do not want to be part of it or anything that may violate US or international customs.
What I could have done differently is let the buyer know that I cannot print the label with the address on file. I could have contacted EBay and figure it out with them before canceling the sale. Why I did this is simply because over the last few years I have had to relist my items because of newly created accounts or those with low feedback that would over bid on my items and cause me a level of frustration that has be on guard. I just wanted to avoid having to relist so I took whatever action I had to and offer a second chance offer while it was still hot rather than have to wait to have my item re-listed or resolved.
Anyway thanks for the replies I am now advised for the future but my future will no longer be with EBay.

Good luck !!
The last one only applies if the buyer sent an official request to cancel It won't apply here. I agree it should be removed but it would be a hard sell under any of the policies
Yes, they can, it is NOT a formal request like they can do within a hour of the purchase, but they can at any time send an email to the seller and ask for the transaction to be cancelled. The other poster was referencing the formal request, not the emailed request.
NO NO NO NO, a buyer can NEVER get an "automatic cancellation". Not EVER. They can formally or informally request one, REQUEST being the key word. It is ALWAYS completely up to the seller if they want to accept the buyer's Request, but a seller is not obligated to accept the request.
So to be clear, a seller CAN decline a REQUEST for cancellation even if the buyer formally requests one within a hour of the purchase.
The policy I posted does not distiguish between a formal request [within one hour of purchase] and the other type which is to email the seller and ask for one.

I just want to make a simple transaction between the buyer and I without any completions. You pay for the item, I print a shipping label and send off the package. It should be that simple but in this case it wasn't.
That is great in theory and most transactions will go smoothly, but this is the internet and from time to time you will have more complicated sales in one way shape or form. You need to be prepared for that and ALWAYS stay current on the selling rules of Ebay as they are forever fluid.
1. There was something wrong with the shipping address that did not allow me to print a shipping label though Ebay. This was the first red flag. If the address is legit and tied to the account then EBay should let me print. EBay probably had a good reason.
That does not mean the buyer is trying to scam you. As most humans, we all make mistakes. They may have made an honest mistake on the address or of course it could be something else. But the simple fact they made a mistake on the address, does NOT mean they are trying to scam you in any way.
And example of that is my home address. We moved here about 10 years ago. In the beginning my address was not at ALL recognized by Google. It was with the PO, but not Google. It would come back as an invalid address. And with the PO, if we put SE on our address [which is correct and part of my address] the PO did not like it and would ask us to verify. It took them a few years but they finally got it fixed and Google has our address too.
I can assure you that when there were problems with a transaction I was purchasing on Ebay back in the beginning, I wasn't trying to scam anyone and my address was fine. But things dealing with computers are only as good as the data that they are updated with. If the humans don't get things done fast enough or efficiently enough, problems arrise.
2. The buyer sent me the same address right after the sale was made without me requesting to do so with a combined line of the address. Why should the buyer do this if the address is already on file with EBay. Second red flag and editing the address still would not allow me to print.
You are reading more into this that is probably factual.
3. Looked up the address on Google and it was lit up with all kinds of warnings for fraud. It turns out that there are Russians that have US EBay accounts that bid on items and have them sent to this re shipper in Delaware.
So what!!!! You are way over stepping as an Ebay seller. What right do you have to dictate what a buyer does with an item after they receive it from you. There are MILLIONS of international buyers that purchase things on Ebay and have them shipped to a US address. Many times they are shipping to what is called a Reshipper. That company hangs onto packages for the customer per their instructions, then repackages them and ships them to the location the customer wants in another country. This can significantly save an international buyer on shipping charges and various taxes. They may have the Reshipper collect packages and ship to them only once a week or month or whatever it is they have agreed to do. International shipping is expensive and this is a great alternative for many international buyers.
I specifically only want to my items to be sold domestic US to persons who reside in the US and I have set up my EBay account to reflect that.
Then you need to stop selling on Ebay as you have no right to control this. You CAN control that you ONLY ship to US addresses, there is no issue with that at all. But I have no idea what makes you think you have the right to dictate to someone else how or who can use that product.
Why because I may sell a gun part like a Scope which is forbidden to ship to another country and although I may not have any liability I do not want to be part of it or anything that may violate US or international customs.
Not your problem. But lets just say that you ship something like this to a reshipper. You appear to be ASSUMING yet again that the reshipper does not declare what is in the packages being sent out of the country. I have no idea what leads you to that assumption, but they have the same rules of shipping as anyone else does when using a US carrier. There are laws and rules that they MUST adhere to.
What I could have done differently is let the buyer know that I cannot print the label with the address on file. I could have contacted EBay and figure it out with them before canceling the sale.
You could have, but it should have been fine with you cancelling the order due to address issues. You just need to call Ebay and get that fixed for those reasons.
Anyway thanks for the replies I am now advised for the future but my future will no longer be with EBay.
That may be best for you. But the problems you ran into here are not uncommon on other sites.
Good luck with whatever you actually end up doing. However I think this is a workable problem and that with a bit more effort on your part you can get it fixed with Ebay as I previously advised.

I am just curious; if they paid with paypal, was the address in your paypal account OK to ship and was it the same?
I also think the response you left should have said something like "There was a problem with your address-Ebay didn't allow that address."

I have taken my lumps however I have no regrets with my instincts as I have visited the feedback the buyer left others over a year and It appears that experienced sellers have done exactly the same. I never seen anyone hand out so much nasty negative feedback in a year of purchases, one in particular was a homophobic slur.
Keeping things constructive on how I will deal with this situation in the future, I will first contact EBay by phone and get their ok. I also plan to document all serial numbers as well as the packing before the item ships.
