Cannot answer buyer questions directly from the listing, need to use message system

If a buyer asks a question on a listing, you get a notice at the top of the seller hub page that shows you have a question (e.g a number one appears). If you click on that number, it takes you to the listing where the question has been raised.

On the side of that listing there is a box that says, "Respond to question."  If you hit that, the following message appears:

"The question you are trying to answer is either invalid or older than 90 days.  You cannot respond to questions older than 90 days."

If, instead, you enter the listing itself, there is a prompt at the top that says, "You have 1 question to answer."  If you click on that, you get the exact same message that says you cannot respond to questions older than 90 days.

It seems the only way to actually answer the question is to go to your message inbox, find the question, and answer it through that.  After you do that, you can only get rid of the notice on seller hub that you have a question by going back to the listing and hitting the part that says the question has been answered.

Why can't they fix this instead of messing around with so many other things that are not broken?  It creates too many steps for the seller that are non-productive and time consuming.

I tried searching for this topic on the boards but did not find it so if this is an ongoing issue and I missed it,  I apologize.
