Cancelling an Order that has an Open Unpaid Case

A buyer didn't pay for a few days or so, and the automatic unpaid assistant opened a case. But, the buyer sent me a message asking how much it would cost to ship to Australia, instead. And I said I don't ship out of the country. Eventually, her and I agreed through messages to just cancel the order. But, it won't let me cancel the order on my end, because of the open Unpaid item case. I turned off the unpaid item assistant but it still won't let me cancel the order. Can they send a cancel order request from their end? Or will they be stopped because of the open Unpaid case, as well? Or should I just wait until the unpaid July 15th deadline to cancel it?

They never sent payment, unpaid case is opened against the buyer,  and we both mutually agreed to cancel the order. Anyone know what I can do? Thank you.

Just let it expire you do the buyer a favor and it will come back and bite you... They created the problem let the burden of solving it rest on their shoulders...

Just cancel it through the unpaid case. Buyers aren't punished for this,

Another option is to call CS show the messages and have them cancel, or at least give direction .

AFAIK the only way to cancel a UID is for the buyer to pay. Once it's been opened, it has to run its course.  Could be wrong about that, though.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

I meant cancel the sale or close it out as a unpaid but I wasn't very clear. TY

lol I had to look it up the first time I saw it, too! Now I use it on here a lot - it's a lot easier than typing out "as far as I know" and I'm lazy, so there 'ya go! Smiley LOL

If it's been over 96 hours you can close it and get your fees back. The buyer gets a strike.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Exactly. Once the unpaid item claim process has started, there is no longer any way to just cancel the transaction.

The possible outcomes become (1) buyer pays  for the item; (2) seller closes the claim between day 5 and day 36 giving the buyer a strike; (3) seller marks the item as paid; or (4) seller just lets the claim expire on day 37.  If you choose options 2, 3, or 4, the buyer will not get an unpaid item strike, BUT you will not get a credit for your final value fee.

The buyer should have inquired about shipping to Australia before they bid on the item, or at least before the unpaid item claim was opened; then it would have been possible to cancel their bid or cancel the transaction. IMHO you should give them the unpaid item strike.

@cardsfan720

An Unpaid Item Case only has two ways out ... payment and closing it with a strike in 96 hours.

Actually, there is a third option. Just let it time out in 30 days. No strike for the buyer that way (if you are feeling generous)

A UPI cannot be changed to a cancel.

If the buyer waited until the UPI was opened to ask about shipping, I would just close without payment after 96 hours and BBL.

If this is their first strike, it won't affect them any. And if it isn't, then they will find themselves blocked by quite a few sellers' buyer requirement blocks ...
